According to a recent report by Circana, previously known as the NPD Group, Resident Evil 4 has claimed the top spot on the sales charts for March 2023, dethroning another highly anticipated game, Hogwarts Legacy. The recently launched remake of the classic Resident Evil game has been well-received by both fans and critics, who praised its updated combat system while staying true to the original’s horror roots.

The game quickly became the second fastest-selling title in the franchise’s history, following closely behind 2012’s Resident Evil 6. With this latest achievement, the remake’s success has displaced yet another popular game from its position at the top of the sales charts.

The RE 4 remake, which had been eagerly awaited by fans, was one of the most anticipated games of the first quarter of 2023. But it wasn’t the only major release this year. In February, Hogwarts Legacy, an open-world RPG set in the Harry Potter universe, debuted to massive success. It dominated the sales charts throughout its launch month and sold over 12 million copies just weeks after its release. However, the game’s time at the top was short-lived as Resident Evil 4 has now taken its place.

According to sales data released by Circana, Resident Evil 4 emerged as the top-selling game of March 2023, despite being released only a week before the end of the reporting period. The remake’s success propelled it to the number one spot, overtaking Hogwarts Legacy, which now sits at a close second. Other games in the top 5 include MLB: The Show 23, COD: MW 2, and The Last of Us: Part 1.
