Capcom, the company behind the widely successful Resident Evil franchise, has sparked speculation about potential remakes in the series’ future, according to a survey it recently distributed. Capcom’s Resident Evil remakes have garnered considerable critical acclaim, and there are no indications of this momentum dwindling.

Resident Evil Remakes: Capcom Survey: Exploring Fan Interests

Through its impressive repertoire, including the lauded Resident Evil 4 Remake, Capcom has undeniably propelled the Resident Evil series to new heights. The fan community has been abuzz with speculation regarding the next move by Capcom, debating whether it would be the continuation of Resident Evil Village’s narrative with Resident Evil 9, or another remake from the series. Current signals hint at the latter.

Resident Evil Remake Survey

The future direction of the Resident Evil series is now more unclear, following a survey from Capcom that probed players’ preferences concerning the franchise. Among the subjects of inquiry were the Ambassador Programme, RENet, and various aspects of the Resident Evil universe, including novels, stage productions, amusement park attractions, and films. Notably, one of the closing queries asked participants which game in the Resident Evil series they would most like to see remade. Resident Evil: Code Veronica, a spin-off linked to the events of Resident Evil 2, emerged as a favourite among many.

Possible Future Directions for Resident Evil Series

Code Veronica has long been a contender for a remake, with calls for it even predating the decision by Capcom to remake Resident Evil 3. The game’s popularity is undeniable, but predicting Capcom’s next move is not straightforward. Code Veronica is a plausible choice, but there are reasons to suggest that the company might progress to RE5. This speculation has been fuelled by a teaser in the post-credits scene of the Resident Evil 4 Remake. Alternatively, Capcom could revisit Resident Evil Zero or proceed with the next mainline instalment, among numerous other possibilities.

However, it’s important to note that surveys, while common in the gaming industry, do not offer any certainty. Nevertheless, it reinforces the prevailing sentiment that Capcom is committed to continuing its cycle of remakes within the Resident Evil franchise. What will ultimately come of this is yet to be seen.

Resident Evil 4 Remake is currently available on PS4, PS5, Windows PC and Xbox Series X/S.
