In the latest news from the Blizzard camp, it’s been confirmed that Zenyatta, the beloved omnic guru from Overwatch 2, is getting a thorough tuning. Remember last year in October, when a bug with Zenyatta was squashed? The one that allowed the beady-eyed mystic to accrue an unfair speed boost atop Kiriko’s ultimate bonus? Ah, good times.
Overwatch 2: Zenyatta’s Orb of Discord Gets Nerfed
Only a few moons ago in April, the voices of Overwatch 2 players echoed across the social media universe. The verdict? Zenyatta was too mighty and needed to be brought down a peg or two. They griped about his excessively potent support ultimate in the game, which boosts ally vitality within a certain radius. But the chief issue was Zenyatta’s Orb of Discord, which he hurls at foes to make them more susceptible to damage.
According to a recent blog post from Blizzard, the Orb of Discord is due for a bit of a knockdown in an impending mid-season patch. This lethal little sphere has made Zenyatta a popular pick among the Overwatch 2 crowd, thanks to its exceptional impact. But with Blizzard planning to give the Orb of Discord a tweak, we could see a shift in the metagame.
Zenyatta’s ability to quickly disintegrate enemy tanks may be dialled back. The specifics are still murky, but the odds are high that the severity of the debuff it offers will be somewhat curtailed.
Overwatch 2: Zenyatta’s Role Re-evaluated in the Meta
Zenyatta is no slouch when it comes to damage output, despite being a support class hero in Overwatch 2. With his harmonious orbs providing healing to teammates and his personal damage immunity for brief intervals, Zenyatta can hold his own against formidable DPS heroes when his abilities are cleverly utilised.
However, Blizzard might have to nip back into the workshop again soon. An Overwatch 2 player recently stumbled upon an odd bug that enabled Zenyatta to kick foes through walls, even catapulting them clear off the stage. Some players found this bug rather amusing, jokingly praising Zenyatta’s commitment to his leg day routine.
As well as Zenyatta’s forthcoming amendments, the mid-season patch will also address balance issues for Torbjorn and Symmetra, redistributing their power from their turrets to other aspects of their ability kits. Reinhardt and Orisa, the front-line tanks, are also set to enjoy some increased potency. The exact implications, however, will only become clear by mid-July.
Overwatch 2 can currently be enjoyed on Windows PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. Play on, heroes!
