The prodigious Rockstar creation, Grand Theft Auto 5, hailed as one of the all-time best in the gaming sphere, has sneaked its way into the Xbox Game Pass repertoire, giving subscribers an unexpected treat. Anticipation was already mounting for new Game Pass additions, but the inclusion of the critically acclaimed, record-smashing Grand Theft Auto 5 was a curveball nobody saw coming.

Unexpected Arrival: GTA 5 on Xbox Game Pass

Sure, Xbox Game Pass aficionados were gearing up for a fresh addition to their gaming portfolio today. They were looking forward to the RPG, Sword and Fairy: Together Forever, which has already gained quite a fanbase in China, and is now ready to charm Game Pass subscribers through consoles, the cloud, and PCs. But GTA V? That was the cherry on the top of the gaming sundae.

Grand Theft Auto 5, though, comes with its own fine print. You can revel in its expansive world via consoles and the cloud, but PC gaming enthusiasts might feel a twinge of disappointment as the game isn’t making its comeback to the PC platform this time. It’s worth noting, too, that this isn’t the game’s first fling with the Xbox Game Pass lineup.

Today’s New Additions to the Xbox Game Pass Roster

  • Grand Theft Auto 5 (Available on Cloud/Consoles)
  • Sword and Fairy: Together Forever (Available on Cloud/Consoles/PC)

But don’t get too cosy with Grand Theft Auto 5. If previous patterns hold true, the game’s tenure on the Xbox Game Pass service may be a fleeting three to six months at best. Rockstar Games titles, despite their enduring popularity, are known to be somewhat transient residents on platforms like Game Pass or PS Plus Extra. The departure date for Grand Theft Auto 5 is still under wraps, but gamers can expect at least a fortnight’s notice when the bell tolls for its removal.

Even though Grand Theft Auto 5’s stint on Game Pass won’t be as enduring as some others, it’s still ample time for subscribers to plunge into the game’s notorious world of crime. You can put a cap on Grand Theft Auto 5’s narrative in roughly 30 hours, give or take. Sure, to hit the 100% completion mark, you’ll need a bit more elbow grease, but it’s still quite feasible to complete it within its Game Pass availability window.
