Key Highlights:

  • Fireteam Finder now aiming for late January launch.
  • Will first have an open beta test period in December.
  • Restoration, Well of Radiance, Ward of Dawn being nerfed.
  • Reducing overall player survivability and power.
  • Comes alongside Weapon Crafting launching with new season.

Destiny 2 remains committed to evolving the player experience with each new season. The next major update introduces the long-requested Fireteam Finder to aid matchmaking. But Bungie is also looking to shake up combat balance by nerfing numerous powerful tools.

Fireteam Finder Delayed to January

The Fireteam Finder feature has faced significant delays since originally being announced. Designed to improve the first-person shooter’s limited matchmaking, the latest roadmap update pushes its launch target to late January.

Before that, an open beta test period will run sometime in December. Bungie wants time to smooth out issues with scaling across the healthy player population before full release.

There is also ongoing work on a new external LFG system that will integrate with the in-game finder. So fans have more flexibility when forming fireteams.

Restoration, Supers, More Being Nerfed

In the name of better balancing combat difficulty and player power, Destiny 2 will see sweeping nerfs to subclasses when Season of the Wish launches.

Most notably, the ubiquitous Restoration healing ability will have its potency reduced by around half in both PvE and PvP.

Super abilities Ward of Dawn and Well of Radiance will receive major cooldown timers, severely limiting their uptime. Additional support tools like Woven Mail are also being targeted.

The goal is to curb longevity across classes without completely neutering viability. But community feedback will be critical if adjustments go too far.

Ongoing Destiny 2 Support

While players brace for ability shake-ups next season, they can look forward to other new features being introduced in tandem.

Weapon Crafting marks a major addition that provides more control over favourite guns. And the Dreaming City is back in the spotlight as the climax to the FPS’s episodic storyline approaches with Lightfall next year.

Even after numerous delays over past seasons, Destiny 2 remains well-supported as a living evolving game. The planned sunsetting of abilities and supers show commitment to keeping that experience as balanced and engaging as possible.

Veterans may grumble adjusting to nerfs but can take solace that issues plaguing the FPS title typically see reasonable solutions given time. The shared hope is that the final campaign sends the IP off in spectacular fashion when the time comes.
