This update introduces a frosty new theme, over 150 unlockable rewards, cross-platform multiplayer coming soon, and more – including the addition of new playable character Quan Chi.
Dubbed “The Cryomancer”, Season 3 brings a wintry makeover to Invasions along with the Lin Kuei Grandmaster Sub-Zero as the mode’s latest boss battle. Defeating the icy ninja earns players special rewards from a prize pool of over 150 items, including character skins like “Frozen Daybreaker Baraka” and “Snow Mountain General Shao.”
Sorcerer Quan Chi is out Now
Quan Chi, an evil sorcerer from the Netherrealm, is now playable for Kombat Pack owners. His sinister magic skills alongside his brute strength make him a formidable new addition to the roster. Kombat Pack owners gain immediate access, while all other players can purchase him separately starting December 21st.
Looking ahead, NetherRealm plans to launch the highly-anticipated Krossplay feature in February 2024, allowing MK fans on different gaming platforms to battle online together for the first time.
The Pre-Fight Intro Trash Talk Added Too
Additionally, this season’s update has addressed a common player grievance by adding pre-fight intro dialogues to the single-player Towers mode and Invasions encounters.
Previously limited to local versus matches, these entertaining conversations between characters will now precede mini-boss, major boss, and Titan fights as well. Their inclusion helps immerse players in the Beat ‘Em Up’s universe and provides extra fan service.
While Mortal Kombat 1 had some criticism early on for its economy and progression system, NetherRealm’s steady stream of new content and quality-of-life improvements have gone a long way toward regaining goodwill with fans.
Between a fourth season of Invasions still to come and the Krossplay milestone next year, there is plenty to look forward to in the months ahead. For now, the brutal challenges and cold aesthetic of The Cryomancer should keep battle-hardened kombatants busy honing their skills.
