Choo-Choo Charles Gameplay Trailer
Having arrived on Steam this December from solo indie developer Two Star Games, the newly released survival horror game Choo-Choo Charles strands players on a remote island which is stalked by a hungry demonic train.
This cursed locomotive sports a creepy clown-like face along with gigantic mechanical spider legs, endowing it with frightening speed and aggression. Dubbed Charles, this eldritch monstrosity treats the island’s inhabitants as food, picking up and gruesomely killing any human it encounters along the railroad tracks traversing the procedurally generated open world.
“No one knows where the train comes from, but they know it enjoys eating ‘puny humans’,” said Two Star Games founder Luke Burtis.
To survive Charles’ perpetual pursuit, players must gather resources and weaponry to transform their own rundown train into a fortified machine of death. While evading attacks from the spider-legged horror, you’ll enlist the aid of local islanders and slowly upgrade your locomotive’s offensive and defensive capabilities. The ultimate goal is to become strong enough to finally confront the villainous train directly in a violent, high-stakes battle.
Atmospheric Horror Focused On Suspense and Evasion
Presenting a unique premise and unsettling atmosphere, Choo-Choo Charles employs cat-and-mouse survival mechanics focused on evasion and suspense. The main villain can spontaneously emerge to hunt the player at any time, keeping tension high as you scavenge the island.
The ambulatory train itself proved extremely challenging for Burtis to program, requiring complex locomotion and pathfinding systems to handle the enemy’s erratic movements.
New gameplay footage that you can watch at the beginning of this article reveals a bleak, eerie world that contrasts sharply with the cartoonish appearance of the demonic train itself. Critics have drawn comparisons to indie horror classics like Little Nightmares and Bendy, with early praise directed toward the horror title’s creepy atmosphere and challenging survival-based gameplay.
If you want to check the title out for yourself, then head on over to the official Steam page for the game where you can find more trailers, system specs and directly download it from there.
If you’re seeking a suspenseful, macabre experience, then you’ll absolutely love Choo-Choo Charles. Just be warned, Charles is always hungry for more puny humans.
