The Last of Us 2 Remastered’s No Return Mode Teased as an Intense Challenge
Naughty Dog has shared an enticing teaser for the ‘No Return’ roguelike survival mode coming in The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered on PS5. A developer described it as “stressful” and likely overwhelming for the faint of heart.
Slated to launch on January 19th, 2024, the Remastered edition includes visual enhancements and new content expanding on 2020’s acclaimed yet controversial PS4 sequel.
No Return is a key addition providing randomised replay value. Players control different characters across dynamically generated scenarios with varying loadouts and challenges per run.
Promises Roguelike Thrills
The brief but tense teaser showcases Ellie battling in familiar but gloomy locales, evading and attacking different lethal foes. Naughty Dog says each run offers unique weapons, buffs, debuffs, and enemy types to keep players on their toes.
Senior Character Artist Del Walker took to social site X to excitedly warn No Return may prove too stressful for some. Between its creepy atmosphere and ruthless enemies, the mode looks to deliver punishing roguelike fun.
Enhancing an Influential Sequel

The original Last of Us Part 2 released in 2020 to both popularity and criticism for its impactful narrative choices. It further developed the relationship between Ellie and Joel in ambitious ways.
While not without detractors, Part 2 pushed the envelope for storytelling in gaming and introduced impressive gameplay improvements like wider level design and insanely real to life locations.
Response is mixed to Part 2 getting a Remastered version just a few years after launch. Some fans welcome the technical boosts like enhanced visuals, DualSense support, and extra content. Others hoped for a Director’s Cut with altered story beats rather than a remaster of a fairly recent title.
