Get ready Guardians, one of Destiny 2’s biggest revelations is almost upon us. Bungie has announced plans for a special “Developer Gameplay Preview” live stream dedicated entirely to The Final Shape, the upcoming expansion billed as the epic conclusion to the decade-spanning Light and Darkness saga. The latest preview video can be viewed below:
Scheduled for Monday, April 9th at 5:30 PM UK Time/9:30 AM Pacific Time, the 30-minute broadcast promises to pull back the curtains on The Final Shape like never before.
Developer interviews, behind-the-scenes insights, and an extensive new gameplay preview are all on the agenda as Bungie prepares fans for the climactic showdown set to arrive on June 4th.
But that’s not all! The Developer Gameplay Preview event will also herald the premiere of The Final Shape’s official launch trailer when it concludes right at 6 PM UK/10 AM Pacific.
For years, Guardians have battled the forces of The Witness and its Disciple agents across the galaxy.
Soon, they’ll get their first full look at how this grand interstellar conflict will reach its resolution.
However, Bungie isn’t making players wait until summer for a fresh injection of Destiny 2 content. In the same preview stream, viewers can expect additional details on the upcoming free Into the Light update, which conveniently launches immediately after on April 9th.
This “greatest hits” mini-campaign celebrates some of Destiny’s most iconic missions and rewards from years past. Chief among them are the returns of fan-favourite Exotic quests The Whisper and Zero Hour – both offline since 2020 but now making a comeback with new challenges and secrets to uncover.
Those who conquer these refurbished challenges will earn the ability to finally craft unique versions of the legendary Whisper of the Worm and Outbreak Perfected Exotic weapons.
However, crafting will merely be the first step, as new perk combinations and stat boosts can be unlocked by replaying the missions on higher difficulties week after week.
That’s far from all Into the Light has in store though. A new Onslaught horde mode, three reprised PVP maps, fresh social spaces, and Season of the Deep arsenal of popular weaponry spanning Destiny’s history will give Guardians plenty to chase once again.
All of it will be freely accessible to every player too, no paid expansions required.
With The Final Shape marking both an ending and new beginning for the Destiny universe, it’s only fitting Bungie kicks the hype into high gear a couple months out. The April 9th Developer Gameplay Preview live stream represents the first major marketing push and lore unveiling fans have waited years to witness.
Longtime invested players are undoubtedly anxious to learn where beloved characters like The Traveler, The Witness, and the Disciples’ sinister plans will take the story next as this climactic new adventure kicks off.
Newer Guardians who missed previous expansions, meanwhile, have the perfect opportunity to get acquainted with Destiny’s rich history through the free Into the Light update activities.
However it ultimately plays out, April 9th seems poised to be a red-letter date on the first-person shooter’s calendar this year. The long road to the franchise’s future finally begins with the turning of The Final Shape. Light’s last stand against The Witness awakens from its slumber.
