A Look at the First Six Civilizations

Aksum (Antiquity Age)

Known as the “Kingdom of Natural Wealth,” Aksum shines in economic and cultural growth, particularly through its mastery of trade.

Players will be able to generate significant gold from coastal and river cities, bolstered by powerful naval units like the Dhow and Tankwa. This focus on resource management makes Aksum ideal for players who enjoy dominating the economic game.

Egypt (Antiquity Age)

Returning as a fan favourite, Egypt is centered around rivers, with its “Gifts of Osiris” ability enhancing production near water bodies.

Egypt’s infrastructure excels, thanks to the economic power of the iconic Pyramids and the unique Mortuary Temple. Militarily, Egypt fields the formidable Medjay infantry, making it a versatile civ for players who value both cultural and military growth.

Maya (Antiquity Age)

The Maya civilization focuses heavily on science, benefiting from its “Skies of Itzamna” ability, which boosts research from vegetated tiles.

Maya’s military unit, the Jaguar Slayer, is designed to defend well, while the Mundo Perdido wonder provides a significant boost to science and overall happiness. This civ caters to players who aim for technological supremacy.

Maurya (Antiquity Age)

Balancing science and military power, Maurya’s “Dhamma Lipi” ability grants bonuses from happiness. With a strong cavalry unit, the Purabhettarah, suited for fortifications, and the cultural influence of the Sanchi Stupa, Maurya offers players a blend of strength in both intellectual and military pursuits.

Rome (Antiquity Age)

The embodiment of tradition and military might, Rome’s “Twelve Tables” ability strengthens its capital and army through adherence to ancient customs.

Its unique Legion unit and the legendary Colosseum offer both military dominance and cultural growth.

Rome is perfect for players who want to wield a well-rounded civ with a focus on both tradition and expansion.

Shawnee (Exploration Age)

The Shawnee are the sole civilization from the Exploration Age in this early reveal and are available exclusively through the Tecumseh and Shawnee Pack DLC.

The Shawnee’s “Nepekifaki” ability enhances food production along rivers, while their Kispoko Nena’to infantry and the Serpent Mound wonder boost combatscience, and production.

For players who want to explore early expansion and river-based strategies, the Shawnee provide a unique and challenging gameplay experience.
