  • Fans eagerly await more details at PAX West panel.

A recent update on the Civilization 7 Steam page has revealed that it will include Denuvo, a contentious anti-piracy software, on its PC version.

Fans have been waiting nearly eight years for a new entry in the Civilization franchise, and their patience is about to be rewarded.

On August 31st, the development team will host a panel at PAX West, offering an exciting glimpse into what players can expect from the latest entry in the strategy series.

While more live gameplay won’t be shown until September, this event promises to shed light on how the new strategy game will differ from its predecessors.

However, the inclusion of Denuvo has cast a shadow over the anticipation. This digital rights management (DRM) software is designed to prevent unauthorised copying and tampering of games.

It works quietly in the background, checking that each copy of the game is legitimate. While Denuvo Software Solutions claims the software has minimal impact on gaming experience, many players disagree.

Gamers have long been wary of Denuvo, citing concerns about its effect on game performance and the requirement for a constant internet connection.

This is particularly frustrating for those who enjoy Civilization’s local multiplayer option, as they’ll now need to be online to play.

Civilization 7: New Features and Changes

The gaming community’s frustration with Denuvo has been fuelled by past incidents where the software was quickly cracked in major releases.

Although, it’s worth noting that the company has likely improved its technology since then.

Civilization 7 is introducing several exciting changes to the series’ formula.

The game will feature altered relationships between leaders and their historical civilisations, as well as a new approach to the passage of time through more defined eras.

In a player-friendly move, the game won’t require the use of publisher 2K’s desktop launcher, which should speed up the process of starting the game.

As the ever-closer February release date approaches, fans are torn between excitement for the new features and concern over Denuvo’s inclusion.

Recent titles, such as Back 4 Blood and The Callisto Protocol, have removed Denuvo after launch, while others like Tekken 8 and Payday 3 opted against using it altogether.

Only time will tell how Denuvo’s presence will affect Civilization 7’s reception and performance.
