Core Features and Enhancements

Lights Out originally thrilled players by stripping away key UI elements, including the terror radius and scratch marks, leaving survivors and killers to navigate a more treacherous environment. This latest version retains the mode’s essence but introduces significant changes to improve balance and accessibility.

The Lantern: A New Survivor Tool

A major change in this iteration is the introduction of the Lantern, a unique item for survivors. In homage to Castlevania, the Lantern is themed as a candelabra and provides several critical functions:

  • Visibility Boost: Increases visibility in the dark, revealing the aura of nearby generators and giving survivors a glimpse of the classic in-game HUD.
  • Strategic Placement: Survivors can place the Lantern on top of a generator to reveal it to teammates. If the generator is completed with the Lantern on it, the killer temporarily loses the ability to see generator auras, offering a strategic advantage.

Killers, however, are not left entirely in the dark. They have the ability to destroy any Lanterns left on generators, ending their effect prematurely. Additionally, killers can knock items out of survivors’ hands when downing them, reminiscent of The Cannibal’s Franklin’s Demise perk.

Gameplay Adjustments and Map Updates

Several gameplay adjustments have been made to refine the Lights Out experience:

  • Enhanced Chests: Chests now guarantee rare or higher items for survivors, encouraging exploration and item gathering.
  • Generator Mechanics: Generators have received a slight repair speed boost and start with 5% progress already completed, helping to mitigate some of the initial challenges survivors faced in finding and repairing generators in the darkness.
  • Increased Anti-Camping Range: To address previous feedback regarding killers camping near hooks, the anti-face camp system‘s range has been extended, preventing killers from setting up tents and waiting around generators.

Lights Out now features an expanded map pool, with the addition of Dead Dawg Saloon and Greenville Square, bringing the total to six available maps for this mode.

Exclusive Rewards and Castlevania-Themed Content

The return of Lights Out coincides with the arrival of Castlevania to the Fog, bringing with it a collection of themed outfits and rewards. Survivors Mikaela Reid and Kate Denson receive new outfits inspired by Sypha Belnades and Maria Renard from the Castlevania series, adding a touch of gothic flair to the game.

Players can also earn exclusive Lights Out rewards, including:

  • Gothic Lantern (Charm)
  • Pixel Dark Lord (Badge)
  • Dracula’s Castle (Banner)

These can be unlocked through the new Event Tome, which provides a fresh set of survivor and killer challenges. While some challenges centre around Dracula and Trevor Belmont, completing them does not require playing as these characters.

Lights Out 2.0: A Balanced and Immersive Experience

The revamped Lights Out modifier aims to deliver a more balanced and competitive experience for both survivors and killers. By addressing previous gameplay issues, such as the ease with which killers could camp generators, and introducing new mechanics like the Lantern, the developers have worked to ensure that this version of Lights Out is engaging and enjoyable.

With its gothic Castlevania theme and an array of new features, Lights Out 2.0 is a must-play for Dead by Daylight fans looking for a fresh challenge. Available until September 19th, this limited-time mode is an exciting addition to the game’s ever-expanding roster of content.

Get ready to step into the darkness and experience the thrill of Lights Out once again. Will you survive the night, or will you fall prey to the shadows?
