Key Highlights:

  • Aspyr hints at a potential physical release for Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered.
  • The remaster will include Tomb Raider: The Last RevelationChronicles, and The Angel of Darkness.
  • The franchise continues its resurgence with remasters, adaptations, and potential collector’s editions.

The Tomb Raider franchise has long been a cornerstone of action-adventure gaming, with Lara Croft cementing herself as one of the most iconic characters in the industry.

With a legacy spanning decades, the demand for classic experiences remains high, evidenced by the recent Tomb Raider I-III Remastered release.

Now, as Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered prepares to launch on February 14th, 2025, new information suggests that a physical release could be on the way.

Aspyr’s Tease: A Physical Release on the Horizon?

Aspyr, the publisher behind the remastered trilogy, has acknowledged the importance of physical media for nostalgic gamers.

In a recent interview with Nintendo Everything, Aspyr Brand Manager Matthew Ray hinted at the possibility of a boxed edition, stating that “more details will be shared soon.”

While this is not an outright confirmation, the phrasing strongly implies that a physical release is in the works.

This strategy would align with Aspyr’s previous moves. Tomb Raider I-III Remastered initially launched digitally before partnering with Limited Run Games for a physical edition.

If Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered follows the same path, it could mean fans will see both a Standard and Collector’s Edition, potentially packed with exclusive merchandise.

What a Physical Release Could Include

Looking at past releases, a physical edition of Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered would likely feature an array of collector’s items. Tomb Raider I-III Remastered’s premium edition included trading cards, figures, posters, and even replicas of Lara Croft’s signature dual pistols.

If Aspyr aims to continue this trend, players could see new memorabilia inspired by the latter trilogy, such as artifacts from The Last Revelation, commemorative items from Chronicles, or special content tied to The Angel of Darkness.

The Resurgence of Tomb Raider

The franchise has been enjoying a major revival beyond the remastered collections. Netflix’s Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft was nominated for “Best Adaptation” at the 2024 Game Awards, and Amazon is actively developing a live-action Tomb Raider series for Prime Video.

These projects indicate a renewed commitment to expanding the iconic universe, making now the perfect time to bring back classic titles in a remastered form. With Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered launching digitally in just a few days, a physical edition seems more like a matter of “when” rather than “if.”

The developers have already confirmed an enhanced photo mode that will allow incredible customisation for players. Aspyr’s acknowledgement of the demand for physical media, coupled with their previous track record, suggests that fans eager to own a boxed version of Lara’s late ‘90s and early 2000s adventures won’t have to wait too long for an official announcement.
