EA Sports FC 25 has officially introduced a paid Premium Pass for the first time in the series, marking a major shift in how content is distributed within the game.

Starting with Season 7, this new premium tier unlocks exclusive content across Ultimate Team, Clubs, and Career Mode, while EA insists that it remains an optional, non-intrusive addition to the standard rewards.

Players can now purchase the Premium Pass for 1,000 FC Points (roughly $9.99) or 500,000 UT Coins, and it comes stacked with high-value rewards designed to appeal to both casual and hardcore players. These include:

  • Tradeable Player Packs – usable within Ultimate Team’s Auction Market.
  • TOTS Flashbacks & Honorable Mentions – celebrating standout performances from the 2024/25 season.
  • PlayStyle+ Evolution Upgrades – exclusive Evolution Consumables to enhance player cards.
  • Franck Ribéry’s Immortal Icon – the top-tier reward, boasting a 96 OVR card.
  • Draft Token & Club Cosmetics – added bonuses across multiple game modes.

How It Works

Unlike traditional microtransactions that directly sell high-power items, the Premium Pass requires progression.

Players must level up within Season 7 to unlock rewards — a mechanic borrowed from successful Battle Pass systems in games like Fortnite and COD Warzone.

This structure keeps the grind element alive while still allowing those who pay to unlock superior rewards.

Importantly, Electronic Arts confirmed that players who opt to stay on the free track will still receive regular Season Pass rewards that scale with their playtime.

The timing of this release is strategic. EA Sports FC 25 has seen a dip in overall performance, reflected in EA’s lowered financial forecast earlier this year.

Team of the Season (TOTS) is right around the corner too, with May 2nd being the start date of the promo. TOTS is by far the most profitable stage of the season at which EA make the most income, mostly via 100K packs sold within the online UT store.

The Premium Pass appears aimed at monetising its core player base more effectively ahead of the expected inclusion of FC 25 in Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PlayStation Plus.

Still, EA is attempting to maintain goodwill. By stating the Premium Pass is “purely additive,” EA wants to assure the community that core progression remains intact.

According to their blog post, no content from the free path has been shifted behind a paywall.

Does This Affect Competitive Balance?

That depends on your perspective. The ability to trade powerful items earned through the Premium Pass introduces a dynamic where paying players can gain an edge — even if only indirectly.

However, because the Premium Pass can also be purchased using in-game currency, it technically remains fully earnable through regular play.

EA’s decision to bring in a paid season pass for the first time in the franchise history reflects broader trends in game monetisation, but with a twist.

Unlike most free-to-play models, FC 25 already comes with a premium price tag, and this change adds another layer of investment.

The Premium Pass delivers meaningful upgrades for those willing to grind or spend, while preserving a fair experience for free players, at least for now.

Whether this balance holds going into EA Sports FC 26 remains to be seen.
