MGS Delta Snake Eater Hits 1 Million Day One Sales

Sold Snake in military attire stands beside a tree, with a forest backdrop, alongside a logo for Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater and a sales graph.

Key Highlights:

  • Over 1 million copies sold worldwide on launch day.
  • Remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater drives demand across PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
  • Performance problems reported on PS5 ProKonami investigating and preparing fixes.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater posted an impressive first-day result, shifting more than a million copies across PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Konami confirmed the total for the launch window that included earlier access for digital deluxe buyers, and the remake’s strong opening shows the franchise still commands significant attention more than two decades after the original.

Critics and many players have praised how the remake modernises controls and presentation while keeping the core of the story intact. Having covered Metal Gear for years, I expected a solid launch, but this level of immediate demand suggests the brand retains serious commercial power.

I even posted on X/Twitter about how Konami haven’t quite trusted the Silent Hill and Meta Gear franchises in recent years. Yet, both have shown that they still have pulling power in the gaming sphere. The Silent Hill 2 Remake has sold over 2 million copies to date.

This latest sales success also underlines how remakes can be a reliable way to reintroduce classic design to a new generation and to long-term fans at the same time. Konami shared the news via a Japanese press release, along with the image you can view below:

The MGS Delta launch was not without issues. Players reported crashes and frame-rate instability, most notably on PS5 Pro hardware. Konami has acknowledged these problems and said it is investigating and preparing patches, but no exact timetable was provided. Performance fixes will be decisive for player sentiment; technical problems left unresolved risk denting momentum even when sales figures look strong.

Lets not also forget that the new Fox Hunt multiplayer mode has been delayed, though it will be arriving this fall. This will give players more than enough time to complete the single-player campaign first, then move onto multiplayer when it’s out.

This kind of opening gives Konami room to capitalise on renewed interest, whether through further remakes or new projects. If they move quickly to stabilise performance and sustain engagement, Metal Gear Solid Delta could become more than a nostalgia hit. It could set the tone for the franchise’s next chapter, and as a big fan myself, I sure hope it does.
