The timing feels deliberate. With Stranger Things concluding its fifth and final season at the end of December, this chapter acts as a darker epilogue, letting players confront the show’s most terrifying antagonist inside The Fog. From a fan perspective, Vecna was always the missing piece. The Demogorgon worked as an early icon, but Vecna’s psychological horror and reality-warping presence fits Dead by Daylight far more naturally.

In-game, Vecna is known as The First, reflecting his identity as Henry Creel. His power kit leans heavily into manipulation and control rather than raw speed. Behaviour describes him as a Killer who can bend the environment itself, summoning the Upside Down through the ground, ensnaring Survivors with vines, and cursing them in ways that distort perception. From what has been shown, this looks less like a simple chase Killer and more like one designed to unsettle players over time, which is where Dead by Daylight is at its best.

I have always felt that Killers who mess with information and awareness tend to age better than ones built purely around mobility. Vecna’s curse mechanic, which causes Survivors to question what is real and what is not, sounds like it could create genuine mind games if tuned correctly. If Behaviour gets the balance right, he could sit comfortably alongside Killers like The Doctor or Freddy Krueger in terms of psychological pressure.

On the Survivor side, Eleven and Dustin join the roster with their own unique skill sets.

Dustin is framed around clever resource use and quick thinking, while Eleven brings psychic-themed abilities that will inevitably raise eyebrows when it comes to balance. Survivors are meant to feel fragile, so translating Eleven’s powers into perks rather than spectacle will be key. It is an interesting design challenge, and one I am curious to see play out once players get hands-on.

The chapter also expands its cosmetic lineup with Legendary Outfits for Robin Buckley and Eddie Munson, applied to Nancy Wheeler and Dustin respectively. Both outfits feature original voice lines, which helps them feel like proper characters rather than simple reskins. Combined with Steve, Nancy, Jonathan, Eleven, and Dustin, this update finally allows for a full Stranger Things Survivor team, something fans have been asking for since the original chapter returned in 2023.

Stranger Things Chapter 2 feels less like a novelty crossover and more like a confident sequel. Vecna’s arrival gives Dead by Daylight one of its most thematically fitting Killers in years, and the expanded Survivor lineup shows Behaviour is willing to go deeper rather than just revisit old ground. If this is how Dead by Daylight plans to handle returning licenses, it sets a strong precedent for the future.
