The reveal of Mortal Kombat 1’s DLC character Ermac was met with a strong backlash from the community last year.

Many fans were disappointed with the character’s new design, which showed Ermac without his iconic mask and with a more simplistic, dehydrated mummy-like appearance.

However, NetherRealm has now unveiled Ermac’s gameplay, and it appears the developers have listened to the community’s feedback.

The character now sports a mask and a more detailed, visually impressive outfit. Furthermore, Ermac’s powers now glow in a vibrant teal colour, adding to the character’s supernatural and menacing aesthetic.

In the official gameplay trailer, Ermac’s full moveset is on display, showcasing the character’s devastating abilities.

Fans can witness Ermac’s teleportation, levitation, and the manipulation of a legion of souls to grab, lift, and slam opponents to the ground.

The trailer also includes a gory Fatality, where Ermac reduces his opponent to a tiny pile of artfully arranged limbs.

Interestingly, the gameplay video features a playful nod to the previous design debate, with iconic character Reptile quipping, “You’ve changed since we first met.” Ermac’s response, “We believe for the better,” suggests that NetherRealm is aware of the community’s concerns and has made a concerted effort to address them.

Ermac’s redesign has already won over many fans, who are eager to see the character in action.

The soul-obsessed red-clad ninja is set to join Mortal Kombat 1 as an early access DLC character on April 16th, with a full release scheduled for April 23rd.

Ermac is a well-known character in the MK universe, having first appeared in 1995’s Mortal Kombat Trilogy. While the character has been a fixture in the series, his latest appearance marks the first time he will be playable in the latest entry.

According to the official description, Ermac is “a collection of souls bound together by Quan Chi’s dark magic that are intended to function as a group mind.” However, this spell is temporarily disrupted when Ermac is defeated by Mileena, allowing the mind of King Jerrod, the deceased ruler of Outworld, to take control and rejoin the royal family.

The new DLC trailer showcases Ermac’s supernatural abilities in action, including teleportation, levitation, and the manipulation of souls to grab, lift, and slam opponents.

These powers are depicted in a visually stunning manner, with Ermac’s abilities glowing in a transcendent teal hue.

New Kameo Fighter Mavado

Alongside Ermac’s debut as a playable character, the trailer also introduces a new Kameo Fighter, Mavado.

A relatively obscure Mortal Kombat character, Mavado makes his first appearance in the series since his debut in 2002’s Deadly Alliance.

In the trailer, Mavado is seen using his trademark elastic whips to devastating effect.

Ermac joins the MK1 roster as the fourth DLC combatant, following the debut of Quan Chi, Omni-Man and Peacemaker. Fans can anticipate the arrival of Homelander and Takeda Takahashi in the upcoming releases of NetherRealm’s Kombat Pack.

Ermac will initially be made available to owners of the Kombat Pack on April 16, with a standalone DLC release following on April 23. Mavado, on the other hand, will join the Kameo roster at a later date in May.

With the addition of Ermac and Mavado, MK1 continues to expand its roster of playable characters and Kameo Fighters.

Fans of the series will no doubt be eager to explore the new movesets and unique abilities these characters bring to the table.
