Thanksgiving Fatality Turns a Holiday Feast Into a Finisher

The Thanksgiving Fatality begins with a dining table appearing in front of the defeated opponent. In the footage, Sub-Zero forces his victim onto the table before stuffing their mouth with an enormous Thanksgiving meal.

The feast includes turkey and other holiday food, but the execution becomes considerably more disturbing when Sub-Zero jumps onto the opponent’s swollen stomach.

The resulting impact causes the victim to vomit violently, with the gruesome finale sending body parts flying alongside the food.

It’s a different kind of brutality from the usual dismemberment or elemental attacks seen in Mortal Kombat. By turning a familiar Thanksgiving dinner into a finishing move, NetherRealm has created something memorable through sheer disgust rather than combat spectacle alone.

Although Sub-Zero performs the Fatality in the circulating footage, the move is not exclusive to Sub-Zero. Other playable fighters can use the same seasonal finisher once it has been obtained and equipped.

How to Perform the Thanksgiving Fatality in Mortal Kombat 1

To perform the Thanksgiving Fatality in Mortal Kombat 1, hold the Block button and press Down twice during the finishing sequence after defeating your opponent.

The input is the same across supported consoles, with only the Block button changing.

Thanksgiving Fatality inputs:

• PlayStation 5: Hold R2 + Down, Down
• Xbox Series X|S: Hold RT + Down, Down
• Nintendo Switch: Hold ZR + Down, Down
• PC: Hold your assigned Block key + Down, Down

Input Distance: Anywhere.

The important part is to keep Block held while entering the two Down inputs. You can perform the Fatality close to your opponent, but standing at close range is not a requirement.

If the move does not activate, check that the Thanksgiving Fatality is available on your account and equipped to the fighter you are using.

How to Equip the Thanksgiving Fatality

Once the Seasonal Fatality has been obtained, it must be assigned to your chosen fighter before you can perform it.

1. Open the Kustomize menu.
2. Select the fighter you want to use.
3. Navigate to the Finishers section.
4. Find the Thanksgiving Fatality among your available seasonal finishers.
5. Select it to equip the Fatality to that fighter.

With the move equipped, enter a match and defeat your opponent. When the game announces Finish Him or Finish Her, hold Block and press Down twice to trigger the Thanksgiving finishing animation.

Thanksgiving Fatality Joins the Seasonal Fatalities Bundle

The Thanksgiving Fatality is included in a new Seasonal Fatalities Bundle alongside the previously released Halloween Fatality and an upcoming Winter Fatality.

The official Mortal Kombat announcement confirmed on 9 November that players who had already purchased the Halloween Fatality would receive access to the full bundle at no additional cost.

That decision follows criticism of October’s Halloween Fatality, which was sold separately through the Premium Store for 1,200 Dragon Krystals.

Charging extra for finishing moves has proved contentious among players, particularly because Fatalities have long been one of Mortal Kombat’s defining features.

The new bundle addresses one important criticism by giving existing Halloween Fatality buyers two more seasonal executions without another purchase.

What stands out to me is that the Thanksgiving animation itself isn’t the difficult part of this announcement. NetherRealm has produced a fittingly grotesque holiday finisher, but its connection to the paid Halloween release means the wider conversation inevitably returns to whether Fatalities should be sold separately at all.

As of 11 November 2023, the Thanksgiving Fatality has been revealed through circulating footage, with the Seasonal Fatalities Bundle expected to become available the following week.
