NetherRealm Studios has released a new Mortal Kombat 1 DLC trailer, offering the first detailed look at Peacemaker’s gameplay ahead of his release as part of Kombat Pack 1. The trailer also confirms Janet Cage, a female variant of Johnny Cage, as an upcoming kameo fighter.
Peacemaker, the once-obscure DC Comics vigilante who has recently gained fame thanks to John Cena’s portrayal in The Suicide Squad and the Peacemaker TV series, was announced as an MK1 DLC fighter last July. Now, with his early access release coming on February 28th, NetherRealm has finally showcased exactly how the peace-loving antihero will play when he joins the roster.
Peacemaker Brings His Signature Mayhem to the Arena
The trailer shows Peacemaker in action against fighters including Liu Kang, Mileena, and fellow DLC fighter Quan Chi. His moveset blends close-range strikes, firearms, and gadget-based attacks, drawing heavily from his comic and TV appearances.
Peacemaker’s helmet plays a central role, granting access to sonic attacks and special abilities. His pet eagle, Eagly, also appears during several moves, acting as an assist that disrupts opponents at key moments.
His Fatal Blow sees Eagly distract the enemy while Peacemaker finishes the attack with a shotgun blast. One of his Fatalities features a jetpack launch followed by a brutal mid-air execution, ending with Peacemaker celebrating by feeding part of the opponent to Eagly.
What stands out to me is how directly NetherRealm has lifted Peacemaker’s tone and humour from the TV series rather than toning him down to fit Mortal Kombat’s usual guest fighter mould.
Janet Cage Provides Celebrity Backup as New DLC Kameo
Peacemaker won’t be the only fresh face launching in MK1 at the end of the month. The trailer also provides the first reveal of Janet Cage, a female variant on beloved MK mainstay Johnny Cage, who will be available as an upcoming DLC kameo fighter. Janet Cage assists during Peacemaker’s fatal blow by violently nailing an autographed glamour shot of herself onto the opponent’s face. She represents a new wave of wacky, meta guest kameos that lean into pop culture parody.
NetherRealm has announced Janet Cage will launch at the back end of March, continuing the new DLC additions alongside other recently revealed kameos like The Boys’ Homelander and Omni-Man. She injects a fun dose of narcissistic Hollywood energy into the roster.
Launch Dates and Crossplay Integration
Peacemaker can be added to MK1 starting February 28th through the early access option in the Kombat Pack 1 DLC. He will then be fully available for individual purchase on March 7th.
Janet Cage will be available to all players on March 27th. These new eccentric guest fighters indicate the developer plans to keep the Beat ’em up feeling fresh well into its fourth season.
In other big MK1 news, crossplay functionality enabling online matches between players on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC is also nearing release. Crossplay will coincide with the launch of the fourth seasonal Invasions chapter.
