The Silent Hill 2 remake is drawing near to completion, as stated by Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno. The game was officially announced in late 2022, and while there has been no official release date provided, it appears that progress on the highly-anticipated survival horror game is coming along well.
2023 has been a year full of survival horror game remakes, with Electronic Arts releasing a successful remake of Dead Space earlier in the year, and Capcom successfully launching Resident Evil 4’s remake late last month. With Silent Hill 2 being another fan-favourite game set for a remake, it’s possible that Bloober Team can join the ranks of these successful survival horror game remakes.
Babieno’s statement that Silent Hill 2 is “technically ready” suggests that the development process has progressed further than many fans expected. While it’s not yet finished, it does imply that the team is nearing completion. There is still work to be done, but it seems that Bloober Team is close to wrapping things up.
However, it appears that Konami, the game’s publisher, is responsible for the release and promotion of Silent Hill 2, meaning that the decision of when to release and how to promote the game is not in the hands of Bloober Team. While they may be keen to announce a release date and build hype for the game, the decision ultimately lies with Konami and its advertising partners, potentially including PlayStation.
A Release Date Announcement Is Imminent
Konami has not been involved in AAA game development since 2015, with franchises like Silent Hill remaining inactive since then. The company is now looking to third parties to bring their big properties back to life, and the marketing of games like the Silent Hill 2 remake could be a key factor in Konami’s resurgence.
While fans will undoubtedly be eager for a release date announcement, it remains to be seen when Konami will choose to do so. The upcoming PlayStation event this summer, which is acting as an alternative to the recently cancelled E3 event, could be a potential platform for the announcement, or it may come later in the year. Nevertheless, Babieno’s comments have instilled hope that Silent Hill 2 will launch in 2023 at some point, which would mark an exciting year for the survival horror genre.
