Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, one of the year’s most hotly anticipated games, is drawing closer to its October 20 2023 release.

Setting the Stage: What Lies Ahead in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

We know of the game’s formidable foes, Venom and Kraven the Hunter. However, Free Comic Book Day brought a ray of web-slinging hope in the form of a prequel comic, shedding light on the adventures of Peter Parker, Miles Morales, and Mary Jane Watson.

As part of Free Comic Book Day, this prequel comic springs into action not long after the events of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

It stars our two web-slinging heroes as they grapple with an enigmatic menace lurking in the heart of New York City.

While action isn’t in short supply, the primary aim of this comic is to lay the groundwork for the core characters’ relationships and struggles in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

What Happens In The Comic

In the opening scene, we find Mary Jane Watson fielding questions from the infamous J. Jonah Jameson, host of the “Just the Facts” podcast.

MJ is riding high on the release of her new book, “Perilous: A Journey into War-Torn Symkaria.” It’s the same book she was researching during the events of Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

Yet, Jameson can’t resist a critical jab, attributing the book’s commercial flop to its perceived lack of “sexiness.”

Tempers flare as MJ pushes back, asserting that Jameson has lost his journalistic edge. Amidst this heated exchange, both Spider-Men crash through a nearby window, accompanied by the relatively obscure Spider-Man villain, Tarantula.

While the two Spideys make short work of Tarantula, Peter cheekily mentions that a single defeat at the hands of two Spider-Men isn’t enough for the villain.

This nod to a comic storyline, Spider-Geddon, hints at the existence of a multiverse within the Marvel’s Spider-Man universe, potentially paving the way for intriguing plot twists in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

Peter And Miles Fight With Tarantula

Though Tarantula meets a swift defeat, the two Spider-Men are not without their slip-ups, inadvertently colliding during the brawl.

Afterward, Peter, Miles, and MJ regroup to obtain electrical supplies for MJ’s Spider-Lures and reflect on their current life situations.

Peter is grappling with mortgage payments on Aunt May’s house, MJ’s book is floundering, and Miles faces a dilemma in choosing his college major – a battle between his scientific prospects and his passion for music.

Their downtime is short-lived, as they stumble upon a robbery in progress. A group of criminals, claiming to work for a mysterious villain known only as “The Hood,” is using cloaking technology.

When the police arrive, the crooks vanish into thin air, leaving the heroes to deduce that they’re using some form of advanced cloaking tech.

Through investigative work, MJ points the Spider-Men towards more of The Hood’s henchmen, leading to an ambush.

After swiftly dispatching them, Miles confirms that the cloaking technology is a leftover from the Tinkerer. MJ uses her journalistic prowess to interrogate the henchmen, uncovering that The Hood is amassing funds to acquire an ancient magical artifact.

However, before they can extract further information, The Hood himself appears. A scuffle ensues, and Miles deploys a sonic device that disrupts The Hood’s cloaking tech, but he escapes nonetheless.

With a list of New York’s dealers in tow, the Spider-Men intensify their hunt for The Hood. Miles utilizes a new sonic device integrated with his music to track him down.

Their swinging pursuit leads them to an abandoned building, where they discover The Hood attempting to use an ancient magic stone tablet to heal his ailing mother.

When the tablet proves ineffective, The Hood’s mother reveals that all she desired was to spend her final moments with her son.

Peter And Miles Fight Hood

The Spider-Men delay the police long enough for them to share their farewell.

The comic concludes with the trio setting aside their personal burdens for the sake of their team and J. Jonah Jameson acquiring the Daily Bugle.

As we swing closer to the release of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, this prequel comic hints at the challenges and dynamics our beloved heroes will face.

With tantalizing glimpses into their lives and their encounters with The Hood, it’s clear that the stage is set for another thrilling adventure in the world of Spider-Man.
