Players exploring New York in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 have uncovered several Easter eggs referencing Daredevil, the mysterious organisation known as The Hand and the Fantastic Four. The discoveries include a changed law office sign, a hidden room containing weapons and unusual symbols, and a rooftop bearing the Fantastic Four’s unmistakable logo.
While these details have prompted speculation about additional Marvel characters appearing in Insomniac Games’ universe, none confirms a Daredevil appearance, Fantastic Four game or future DLC.
Daredevil’s Law Office and the Mysterious Room
One of the earliest discoveries involved the Nelson & Murdock law office in Hell’s Kitchen.
In the original 2018 Marvel’s Spider-Man, the building featured a plaque identifying the legal practice operated by Matt Murdock, better known as Daredevil, and his partner Foggy Nelson.
When Spider-Man 2 launched, the building remained, but the names had disappeared from the plaque. Players also discovered a notice attached to the entrance, raising questions about whether the lawyers had moved.
During an October interview with IGN’s Beyond! podcast, senior creative director Bryan Intihar was asked about the change.
“That’s a good question. Stay tuned. Good find though,” Intihar replied.
His response prompted speculation that Insomniac was preparing something involving Daredevil.
However, the missing sign was restored following the November 1 update, returning the Nelson & Murdock name to the building. The change establishes that the reference remains in the game, but it does not confirm why the names originally disappeared.
Another discovery has attracted attention in the Upper West Side.
Players found a mysterious room behind a bookstore containing firearms, swords, a red banner and unusual symbols. Although the room cannot be entered directly, its contents can be viewed through the building’s windows.
The discovery was highlighted by gaming creator Caboose, whose original footage of the hidden room circulated on October 31.
Some players believe the symbols and weapons could reference The Hand, the secretive ninja organisation frequently associated with Daredevil in Marvel Comics.
Others have suggested a possible connection to the supernatural side of Marvel’s universe, given the room’s occult imagery.
Neither interpretation has been confirmed by Insomniac.
What interests me is that the two discoveries provide different kinds of evidence. The Nelson & Murdock plaque is an unmistakable reference to established Marvel characters, whereas the hidden room requires interpreting symbols whose meaning remains uncertain.
Treating both as confirmation of Daredevil DLC would go further than the evidence supports.
Fantastic Four Logo Appears on the Baxter Building
Elsewhere in New York, players have discovered another Marvel reference on a building near the northeastern corner of Hell’s Kitchen, close to Central Park.
The structure bears the Baxter name, connecting it to the Baxter Building, traditionally associated with the Fantastic Four.
On the rooftop, a large blue number four is being painted onto a landing pad. Paint buckets, rollers and other equipment surround the unfinished design.
The partially completed logo is a particularly interesting detail because it makes the building look as though it is being prepared for a new occupant.
In Marvel Comics, the Fantastic Four consists of Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm and Ben Grimm, whose headquarters are closely associated with the Baxter Building.
Its inclusion in Spider-Man 2 expands the number of recognisable Marvel locations represented in Insomniac’s New York, but the game does not feature the Fantastic Four as playable characters or establish that they will appear in future content.
The building also has an interesting history within Insomniac’s games, having previously served as Fisk Tower in the original Marvel’s Spider-Man.
With these references appearing alongside other connections to the wider Marvel universe, Insomniac continues to acknowledge superheroes beyond Peter Parker and Miles Morales.
However, the Daredevil clues and Fantastic Four rooftop remain Easter eggs rather than confirmed announcements of future projects.
These discoveries are part of a much larger collection of other Marvel Easter eggs in Spider-Man 2, including references to Black Panther, Wolverine and Doctor Strange.
Later update: In October 2024, Insomniac confirmed that no additional story content was planned for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. The announcement ended expectations of a story DLC expansion based on these Easter eggs, although it did not rule out the characters appearing in another game.
