Key Highlights:

  • Venom is destroyed during the final battle, while Harry Osborn survives but falls into a coma.
  • Peter’s Anti-Venom powers demonstrate that symbiote remnants can be transformed, although Harry’s recovery remains uncertain.
  • Insomniac has discussed the possibility of a Venom spin-off without confirming a new game or explaining how the character might return.

The ending of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 leaves Venom’s return uncertain after Peter Parker destroys the symbiote and Harry Osborn falls into a coma. However, Peter’s transformation into Anti-Venom introduces a possible route for exploring symbiote powers without repeating the events that turned Harry into a villain.

Insomniac Games has already acknowledged interest in the character’s future. In an October 2023 interview with Insider Gaming, senior narrative director Jon Paquette explained that the studio intended to consider fan reactions before discussing a potential standalone Venom game.

The comments left the possibility open, but did not confirm that Venom would return or that a spin-off was in development.

What Happened to Venom and Harry Osborn?

During the final confrontation, Peter and Miles attempt to stop Venom from spreading the symbiote across New York.

After the heroes destroy the meteorite responsible for strengthening the alien invasion, Peter uses his Anti-Venom abilities to remove and destroy the symbiote bonded to Harry.

The process frees Harry from Venom’s control but leaves him dying. Miles manages to restart his heart using his bioelectric powers, although Harry subsequently falls into a coma.

As explored in the Spider-Man 2 ending explanation, Norman Osborn becomes increasingly desperate over his son’s condition.

Harry’s survival preserves an important character relationship for a future story. However, the Venom symbiote is destroyed during the finale, meaning his recovery would not automatically restore the villain.

Could Anti-Venom Bring Harry Back?

Peter’s acquisition of Anti-Venom provides the most interesting possibility for revisiting Harry’s connection with the symbiote.

Earlier in the story, Martin Li uses his powers to transform the remnants of the alien organism left inside Peter, creating the white Anti-Venom suit.

Unlike the original symbiote, this new form does not exert the same corrupting influence over Peter’s personality.

The transformation demonstrates that remnants of a symbiote can survive inside a former host and acquire different properties under extraordinary circumstances.

However, the game never establishes that Harry retains living symbiote cells following Venom’s destruction, nor does it suggest that transferring Anti-Venom would restore his health.

I find Harry’s condition more important than the mechanics of bringing Venom back. His illness was the reason Norman pursued experimental treatment, and any successful recovery would have to address the medical problem that originally led to the symbiote bonding with him.

A future story could introduce another organism or an entirely different treatment, but neither possibility is confirmed.

Could Venom Become a Playable Anti-Hero?

Insomniac has already demonstrated how Venom could function as a playable character.

During Don’t Be Scared, players briefly control Harry as Venom while escaping Oscorp. His powerful attacks, enormous size and aggressive fighting style offer a markedly different experience from controlling Peter or Miles.

A standalone adventure could expand those mechanics, potentially taking inspiration from Venom’s history as an anti-hero in Marvel comics.

However, that direction would require a substantial change from the character’s portrayal in Spider-Man 2, where Harry’s desire to heal the world becomes twisted into a symbiote invasion.

Insomniac’s comments about a possible Venom solo game concern whether the studio might pursue the idea, rather than how the character would return.

In the meantime, Spider-Man 2 establishes two separate outcomes: Harry remains alive, while the symbiote responsible for creating Venom has been destroyed.

Whether those circumstances eventually lead to another playable Venom depends on story decisions Insomniac has yet to reveal.
