The next Destiny 2 seasonal event, Guardian Games, is returning in 2024 with major additions like brand new hoverboard “skimmer” vehicles and a refreshed competitive scoring system. A brand new All-Stars trailer which can be viewed below, showcases all the fresh content.
Guardian Games pits the three classes against each other in Olympic-style contests. Beyond the introduction of skimmers, this year’s edition focuses on balancing participation across classes and adding more rewarding achievements.
Hover Into Action on Slick New Skimmers
The biggest new feature for Guardian Games 2024 is the debut of skimmers, a hoverboard-style vehicle type that replaces sparrows. All players can earn the new exotic Allstar Vector skimmer by completing the opening onboarding quest.
Skimmers allow pulling off tricks, grinding on rails, and floating above surfaces – adding a flashier way to traverse that long-requesting fans have wanted. The Allstar Vector skimmer can be kept permanently by finishing the “Drop In” quest before the event ends.
Another skimmer inspired by a “beloved” Destiny weapon will also be available through Eververse. Their introduction brings a major new way to get around that stylishly fits the FPS’s theme. All the details were shared by Bungie via their periodic This Week in Destiny blog post.
Changes to Scoring and Medals Encourage Participation
Past Guardian Games events saw imbalances between the highly populated Hunter class and the other two when tallying overall medals. To encourage more even engagement across classes, 2024’s event is changing how scoring works.
Instead of total medals, the scoring is based on each class’s average medals per player who deposited that day. There are also new Diamond tier medals worth big points for limited accomplishments, which could shift the course.
Personal and fireteam achievements will additionally award bonus prizes, giving more incentives to participate even if your class is behind. The revisions aim to foster fairer competition.
New Cosmetics, Weapons and Memento as Rewards
During Season of the Wish, players can earn new themed cosmetics like armour ornaments, emblems, and weapon skins by excelling in Guardian Games competitions and medal deposits. The new class memento also has a chance to drop when turning in high value medals.
