Fortnite’s Golden Rise of Midas Event Begins

Fortnite has kicked off an exciting multi-week event called “Rise of Midas.” This brings back fan-favourite character Midas and offers players numerous opportunities to earn free in-game cosmetics. The event runs until April 2nd. Check out the new trailer showcasing everything that’s new in the game below:

Midas Returns with Challenges and Rewards Throughout the Rise of Midas event, players can complete themed quests to unlock special rewards.

These in-game challenges will roll out in five batches between now and March 28th. Completing six quests awards the Cerberus Medallion spray.

At 12 quests, you get the Rose of Avarice back bling. Finish 18 total and you’ll receive the Queen in Gold glider themed after Midas’ golden sister Marigold.

On March 26th, the Ascendant Midas outfit will arrive in the item shop. This new Midas skin features a regal Greek aesthetic with golden armour and crown.

His matching accessories like the Golden King’s Cape back bling will also be available for purchase.

However, skilled players can potentially earn the Ascendant Midas ensemble for free. The Rise of Midas Cup is a solo tournament where top performers will unlock that skin and cape at no cost.

Floor is Lava Mode Makes Molten Return

The popular “Floor is Lava” mode is back but with a golden twist befitting the latest theme.

The lava will have a gilded appearance as players construct towering structures to avoid its deadly touch. This revamped mode also features the new weapons and items from Chapter 5 Season 2.

Like the main event quests, Floor is Lava has its own set of limited-time challenges. Complete these to claim prizes such as the Lightning King and Zeus Medallion sprays along with the Gilded Vengeance harvesting tool. But don’t delay – the mode and associated rewards will disappear after April 2nd.

New Gear and Items Arrive

New Chains of Hades mythic item in Fortnite
The new Chains of Hades mythic item has multiple uses

Two powerful new pieces of equipment are now appearing across the island. The first is the Chains of Hades mythic item which can yank enemies toward the wielder for a vicious combo attack. Unfortuntely it only does 30 damage to opponents, and having tested it out, the fall damage plays are not possible as there seems to be no fall damge after being pulled with the item.

It can occasionally spawn in chests and as floor loot, or players can defeat the Hades NPC for a guaranteed drop.

The other is the Shield Bubble Jr., a portable defensive dome providing momentary cover from enemy fire. This is a much smaller and compact version of the popular shield bubble we all know and love. Like most gear, it can be found by searching chests or as ground pick-ups. It will be most applicable to use in the zero-build mode rather than builds.

Additionally, the Drum Gun returns as a brand new weapon option during this event period. This blisteringly fast-firing weapon was last seen several years ago. However, the recoil on this latest version that’s been dropped seems to be very hard to grasp. So make sure to go to a modding station to help reduce the recoil when you get a chance.

Bug Fixes and Performance Improvements

As usual, the v29.01 patch also resolves several issues impacting gameplay. This includes fixing an exploit allowing the Thunderbolt of Zeus to pass through player-built structures. It also curtails an infinite flying glitch involving the Wings of Icarus item.

Overall, the Rise of Midas event promises an action-packed few weeks for Fortnite fans. Between the quests, tournament, new mode, and fresh loot, there’s plenty of golden content to experience before it potentially vanishes for good in early April.
