Key Highlights:

  • Max Payne 1 & 2 remake enters full production phase.
  • Control 2 reaches “production readiness” with playable features.
  • Remedy sees 16.2% revenue increase in Q2 2024.

Remedy Entertainment, the Finnish game developer behind popular franchises like Max Payne and Alan Wake, has shared positive updates on its upcoming projects in its latest financial report.

The studio has made significant strides in the development of both the Max Payne 1 & 2 remake and Control 2, signalling exciting times ahead for fans of these acclaimed series.

Max Payne Remakes Advances to Full Production

The Max Payne 1 & 2 remake, announced in 2022 in collaboration with Rockstar Games, has now entered full production. Previously, the highly anticipated reboots entered production readiness phase, but now are at the full production stage.

This project aims to reimagine the first two games in the iconic third-person shooter series as a single title, using Remedy’s proprietary Northlight Engine. They will be given the AAA treatment too, with a big budget estimated to be around $55 million.

The development team has been working on creating an early functional version of the game, playable from start to finish, with a focus on implementing key differentiating gameplay features.

Control 2 Approaches Major Development Milestone

Meanwhile, Control 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2019 action-adventure hit, has progressed to the “production readiness” stage.

Remedy reports that they now have a playable build showcasing several important features of the game. This build has undergone a large-scale internal playtest to gather feedback, as the studio prepares to scale up production in the coming months.

Financial Growth and Strategic Focus

In addition to these project updates, Remedy’s financial report revealed a 16.2% increase in revenue for Q2 2024, reaching EUR 10.3 million (approximately USD 11.25 million).

The company expects this positive trend to continue, projecting increased revenue and improved operating income for the rest of the year.

Remedy’s focus on its established IPs, including the cancellation of a new IP (Project Kestrel) earlier this year, demonstrates the studio’s commitment to delivering high-quality experiences within its most popular franchises.

This strategy seems to be paying off, both in terms of development progress and financial performance.

As these projects continue to evolve, fans can look forward to more updates and eventually experiencing these reimagined and new entries in the Max Payne and Control universes.

With Remedy’s track record of creating compelling narrative-driven games, expectations are high for these upcoming titles.
