The Rebreather is one of the most important tools you’ll need in Sons of the Forest. It allows players to explore underwater areas, unlocking hidden secrets and providing access to crucial weapons and tools. Here’s how to find and use it.
Where to Find the Rebreather
The Rebreather is located in Cave A, which you can find on the northern coast of the island. The cave entrance is boarded up and marked by yellow cans floating near the water, as well as bodies skewered on the shore, a clear indicator that you’re in the right place. To enter, use your axe to break down the boards.
Once inside, it will be very dark, so you’ll need a source of light. You can either use a torch (which can be crafted from a cloth and stick) or a flashlight if you’ve already found one earlier in the game.
The cave is linear, and although it may seem complex, the path forward is clear. You’ll encounter some enemies, but they can be bypassed if you’re not equipped to fight them.
Quick Tip: Turning on Peaceful Mode will allow you to explore enemy free.
Navigating the Cave
As you progress deeper into the cave, you’ll find a laptop that adds the location of the Entertainment Bunker to your GPS, along with other useful resources like Flares and 9mm Ammo. Make sure to grab the Air Tank, which will be vital for using the Rebreather.
Continue through the cave until you reach a blue-lit area. You’ll encounter enemies along the way, but if you’re not equipped for combat, you can avoid them by running past. The path will eventually split; if you go right, you’ll find the Stun Gun, but to get the Rebreather, take the left path.
Finding the Rebreather
Follow the left path past floating life vests, crouch through narrow tunnels, and you’ll eventually reach a large, water-filled room. You’ll see a bright light on a rock, that’s where the Rebreather is located. Be cautious, as a shark patrols the waters, so avoid jumping in just yet.
Important: Use your light source to lean near the edge of the water and scout the shark’s location. Once it’s out of reach, you can then safely enter the water.
Once you’ve picked up the Rebreather, equip it from your inventory, and it will automatically activate when you dive into the water. Swim through the underwater tunnel to escape the cave and return to the surface.
Using the Rebreather
The Rebreather is essential for underwater exploration in Sons of the Forest. It not only allows you to explore hidden areas but also unlocks access to important tools like the Rope Gun, advancing both your survival and the main storyline. When you have both items in your inventory, you’re then able to acquire the Shovel straight after.
Make sure to equip it whenever you need to dive deep, as it significantly extends your underwater breathing time, making exploration safer and more efficient.
With the Rebreather in your inventory, you’re now ready to tackle some of the game’s toughest underwater challenges and access new areas for continued exploration.
