Key Highlights:

  • Community-made add-ons are now available for The Elder Scrolls Online on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
  • Only UI-based add-ons are supported at launch, accessible via the in-game Options menu.
  • Feature launched with Update 46 and went live for consoles on June 23.

Nearly a decade after PC players first began customising their Elder Scrolls Online experience with add-ons, console players are finally getting access to the same feature, at least partially.

As of June 23rd, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S players can now browse, install, and manage approved UI-based add-ons directly through the game’s Options menu, marking a significant step forward for console-side personalisation.

How to Access and Manage Add-Ons on ESO Console (PS5 and Xbox Series X/S)

To access add-ons on ESO console, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your console and launch the game
  2. Go to the Options menu
  3. Scroll down to the Add-ons section at the bottom
  4. Click on “Browse Add-ons” to search or browse through the list
  5. Select an add-on like the Harvest Map, then press X PS/A Xbox to install it
  6. Be mindful of your console’s memory usage and consider managing add-ons accordingly
  7. After installing, click Reload UI to activate the add-ons
  8. You may need to reload the game if add-ons don’t appear correctly initially
  9. Keep in mind that some add-ons may be buggy or slow to work properly at first

While the initial rollout is limited to user interface enhancements, it represents the first time ZeniMax Online Studios has enabled any form of community-created mod support on console.

This new functionality, introduced with Update 46 on June 2nd but activated weeks later, allows players to search for and install add-ons without needing to download external files or leave the game interface.

Once installed, add-ons can be toggled, removed, or modified from a dedicated section in the Options menu.

Among the available add-ons is the popular Harvest Map tool, which displays resource node locations on the game’s map.

Players are advised to monitor memory usage, as consoles have tighter memory limits compared to PCs.

Some add-ons may depend on companion files to function properly, and a UI reload is required after installation to activate changes.

Despite occasional bugs or UI issues, the system is functional, and the community has already begun experimenting with available tools.

Limitations, Future Updates, and Crossplay Plans

At present, this update is exclusive to current-gen hardware.

There is no indication that the feature will be brought to PS4 or Xbox One.

ZeniMax has not offered a roadmap for expanding the range of supported add-on types, but did confirm that the studio is working toward introducing crossplay across all platforms.

Whether crossplay will be balanced to account for disparities in available add-ons remains unknown.

The introduction of console add-ons arrives just after The Elder Scrolls Online celebrated its tenth anniversary and amid plans for new seasonal content.

In April, ZeniMax teased upcoming visual upgrades, new dungeons, and the return of Molag Bal as part of the game’s evolving storyline. The same month, they made the Scribing system free for all players.

With this long-requested feature now live and in active development, console players are finally gaining the kind of flexibility PC users have enjoyed for years, potentially opening the door to a more customisable and accessible MMORPG experience on next-gen platforms.
