  • Fresh story details reveal fog-covered Ebisugaoka, grotesque enemies, and psychological tension.

Gamescom Opening Night Live provided a haunting Silent Hill f story trailer that shed more light on Hinako Shimizu’s role, while also confirming that Suzie Yeung will provide the English voice for the protagonist. For long-time fans, this feels like a striking new direction that still preserves the unsettling core of the franchise.

The story trailer begins with Hinako waking in a dimly lit shrine, wandering its twisted hallways, and following a mysterious figure holding a blue lamp. Before long, she is surrounded by the grotesque dolls already teased in earlier footage. What struck me here is how the pacing leans less on gore and more on slow, suffocating dread – a subtle return to Silent Hill’s psychological roots, even as the series experiments with more action-driven elements.

Later scenes cut to a rain-soaked house that Hinako Shimizu recognises as her own. Her clothes are torn, bloodied, and a disembodied voice whispers chilling instructions to kill everyone. This moment is a classic Silent Hill tactic: blending the familiar with the horrific to dismantle the player’s sense of safety.

Personally, I think this is where the trailer really proves Ryukishi07’s influence, blurring beauty and terror in a way that feels unique compared to other entries.

Beyond the trailer, we’ve also learned more about the story. Set in 1960s Japan, Silent Hill f follows Hinako in the fog-blanketed town of Ebisugaoka. Descriptions tease an experience filled with puzzles, monstrous encounters, and themes of doubt and regret. The character guided by a wolf mask remains shrouded in mystery, yet his role looks set to complicate Hinako’s journey even further.

With music by Akira Yamaoka and direction from producer Motoi Okamoto, who emphasised a combat-heavy approach to appeal to modern players, the game looks set to walk a fine line between survival horror and action challenge. That is the exact formula that Resident Evil Requiem is going for too. RE Requiem wasn’t left out either, as a new Gamescom trailer was revealed on Opening Night Live as well.

From my perspective, this mix could either alienate purists or broaden Silent Hill’s audience dramatically, much depends on how seamlessly it’s balanced.

Although initially revealed as a PS5 exclusive, Silent Hill f now launches on September 25th, 2025, across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC platforms.
