Fortnite Chapter 7 has arrived with a huge map shake-up and a surprising absence. Four of the game’s most popular modes have been temporarily removed, leaving players with a much smaller playlist in the opening days of the new season. Ranked, Reload, Blitz Royale and Fortnite OG have all been taken offline, with Epic tying their disappearance to the destruction of the Battle Bus during the Zero Hour finale.
Chapter 7’s launch was always going to draw attention after the spectacle at the end of Chapter 6. More than 13 million players tuned in to see the Dark Presence showdown, and the server downtime that followed set the stage for Pacific Break. The new island spans deserts, snowy ridges and a wave battered coastline inspired by the American West Coast. With the Battle Bus out of action, players now surf onto the island and push inland to uncover its 13 named POIs.
The missing modes are temporary. Blitz Royale, Ranked and Reload all return on 4 December, while Fortnite OG comes back on 11 December alongside its new season. Selecting any of these playlists right now brings up an in-universe disclaimer explaining that the broken Battle Bus is preventing access. Beneath that, Epic lists the exact dates each mode goes live again, so players aren’t left guessing.
While the downtime is a frustration for fans who treat these modes as their main way to play, Chapter 7 provides plenty to focus on in the meantime. Battle Bus repair quests are available and progress earns cosmetic rewards, making the absence feel more like a narrative beat than a hard lockout.
Players can still play the Creative, Save The World, Public BR, Festival, LEGO and Racing game modes.
The main Battle Royale mode has also changed significantly, with wingsuits, drivable reboot vans, anomalies and a new loot pool giving players a lot to relearn.
For those who stepped away from Battle Royale in favour of OG or Reload, this window is a chance to revisit the core mode with a fresh map and movement options. Simple Build offers an easier entry point for players who avoided building entirely, and the wingsuit makes early rotation far more flexible.
Even with four modes missing, the first days of Fortnite Chapter 7 are packed with enough new systems that the smaller playlist doesn’t feel empty.
Everything returns within the first two weeks of December, but until then, Chapter 7’s opening stretch is designed to push players back into the main island and reacquaint them with a version of Fortnite that has changed more than most expected.
