Mario Kart Tour Shutdown Date Confirmed as Nintendo Ends Mobile Racer in September

Key Highlights:

  • Mario Kart Tour shutdown date is officially set for 30 September 2026 at 11:00 p.m. PT / Sept. 30 at 8:00 a.m. CEST.
  • Nintendo has already ended Ruby sales and new Gold Pass subscriptions ahead of the closure.
  • No offline version or replacement has been announced once the servers go offline.

Nintendo has confirmed the Mario Kart Tour shutdown date, bringing one of the company’s longest-running mobile games to an end after almost seven years of service. The free-to-play racer will permanently go offline on 30 September 2026 in the UK, leaving players with only a few months to race before the servers are switched off.

Originally released in 2019 for iOS and Android, Mario Kart Tour adapted Nintendo’s iconic racing series for mobile devices with touch controls, rotating seasonal Tours, collectible drivers, karts and gliders, alongside courses based on real-world cities and classic Mario Kart tracks. Although major content updates ended several years ago, the game has remained fully playable online until now.

Nintendo has also outlined the gradual wind-down of the game’s online services before the final shutdown.

Ruby sales have now ended, although players can continue spending any remaining Rubies until the servers close. New Gold Pass subscriptions and automatic renewals have also been discontinued. Existing Gold Pass members will continue receiving most subscription benefits free of charge until the game closes, while all players will gain access to most Gold Pass perks from the Vacation Tour beginning on 4 August 2026.

The company also confirmed that players with unused paid Rubies will be able to request refunds after the shutdown, with further details expected closer to the end of service. Free Rubies, along with any paid currency that has already been spent, will not qualify for refunds.

Unlike Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, which received the standalone Pocket Camp Complete release after its online service ended, Nintendo has confirmed there are currently no plans for an offline version of Mario Kart Tour. Once the servers are shut down, the game will no longer be playable.

Luckily the Mario Kart World game launched on Switch 2 last year, I personally never liked Tour, but Mario Kart World is ten times better in my opinion. Granted, World is on a proper console and had a big budget, I just don’t run my games on mobile, it’s a preference thing.

Mario Kart Tour proved to be one of Nintendo’s most successful mobile releases despite receiving a mixed reception at launch due to its original gacha-style monetisation, which was later removed. Over the years, many of its city-themed circuits, characters and costumes made their way into later entries across the Mario Kart series, giving the mobile title a lasting influence beyond smartphones.

For longtime players, the shutdown marks the end of years spent collecting racers, unlocking karts and competing through seasonal Tours. Anyone who has yet to try Nintendo’s mobile racer now has a limited window to experience it before it disappears permanently.
