Kameo Mastery in Mortal Kombat 1 is a progression system that rewards players for using individual Kameo Fighters alongside their playable fighter. Each Kameo Fighter has a separate Mastery track, allowing players to earn Kameo-specific rewards as they gain Mastery XP and increase that Kameo’s Mastery Rank.
The system progresses independently for each Kameo Fighter. Using Sareena increases Sareena’s Kameo Mastery, for example, while switching to a different Kameo begins or continues that character’s separate progression track.

How Does Kameo Mastery Work in Mortal Kombat 1?
Kameo Fighters gain Mastery XP through eligible gameplay while equipped as the player’s active Kameo. Earning enough Mastery XP increases the Kameo’s Mastery Rank and unlocks the reward assigned to that rank.
Kameo Mastery is tied to the individual Kameo rather than the playable fighter paired with them. Players can therefore use the same Kameo alongside different playable fighters while continuing to progress that Kameo’s Mastery track.
What Rewards Does Kameo Mastery Unlock?
Kameo Mastery rewards include palettes, Kombat Kard customisation items, Easy Fatality Tokens, and Kameo-specific Brutalities. Each reward becomes available when the Kameo reaches the required Mastery Rank.
Kameo Brutalities are among the most important gameplay-related rewards. Kameo Fighters can unlock two Brutalities through Mastery, with these finishing moves becoming available at Mastery Ranks 2 and 11.
The remaining rewards primarily focus on cosmetic customisation and player profile items. These rewards provide additional incentives to use different Kameo Fighters rather than relying exclusively on a single assist character.
What Is the Difference Between Kameo Mastery and Character Mastery?
Kameo Mastery applies to Kameo Fighters, while Character Mastery tracks progression for playable fighters. Both systems use Mastery XP and Mastery Ranks, but each character progresses independently and unlocks rewards associated with their role.
Playable fighters generally have larger Mastery tracks with more character-specific rewards. Kameo Mastery uses a shorter progression track because Kameo Fighters serve as assist characters rather than fully playable members of the main roster.
Players can progress both systems while using a playable fighter and Kameo together. The Mastery progress earned by one character does not transfer to the other, and changing either character changes which individual Mastery track is being progressed.
Players who want to understand the progression system for the main playable roster can learn more about Character Mastery in Mortal Kombat 1, the separate progression system used by the main playable roster.
How Many Kameo Mastery Ranks Are There?
Kameo Fighters have 15 Mastery Ranks. Reaching the maximum rank completes that Kameo Fighter’s standard Mastery progression track.
The shorter track distinguishes Kameo Mastery from the longer progression available to many playable fighters. Despite having fewer ranks, Kameo Mastery still includes gameplay-related unlocks alongside cosmetic and Kombat Kard rewards.
Completing Kameo Mastery with multiple characters also contributes to progression outside the individual reward tracks. The Rollin’ With My Krew achievement and trophy requires players to complete Mastery with five Kameo Fighters.
Does Kameo Mastery Reset Each Season?
Kameo Mastery does not reset when an Invasions season ends. Mastery Ranks and previously earned rewards remain permanently unlocked for each Kameo Fighter.
This makes Kameo Mastery a persistent progression system rather than a seasonal one. Players can use Invasions content to progress a Kameo without losing that Mastery progress when the seasonal campaign changes.
The distinction is important because Invasion-specific progression can reset between seasons, while Kameo Mastery remains attached to the individual Kameo Fighter.
Why Is Kameo Mastery Important?
Kameo Mastery gives players a dedicated progression path for Mortal Kombat 1’s assist roster. The system rewards repeated use of individual Kameo Fighters while encouraging players to experiment with different pairings across the roster.
I’ve found Kameo Mastery provides a useful reason to move beyond a favourite Kameo and experiment with different assists. Progressing a new Kameo provides its own reward track, while unlocking additional Brutalities gives that character more finishing options during matches.
In Mortal Kombat 1, Kameo Mastery functions as the persistent progression system for Kameo Fighters. It connects Kameo usage with permanent rewards and provides a separate progression path alongside the Character Mastery system used by playable fighters.
