Rainbow Moon has been out for a while on the PSN, and it’s expected to release on the PS Vita in the not so distant future. The game is in development as we speak and it shouldn’t be long now.
We noticed that there’s a job advert on one of SideQuest’s websites that has been put into a blog post and posted. The advert asks for freelancers to work on their sequel game to Rainbow Moon titled Rainbow Skies. The website is pretty new and will no doubt be updated on numerous occasions throughout the year.

Rainbow Skies: The Sequel to Rainbow Moon Has Been Out for Years – Here’s Where Things Stand Now
Rainbow Moon made its mark as a strategic, grid-based RPG on the PlayStation Network, garnering a dedicated fanbase thanks to its blend of classic tactics gameplay, bright visual style, and a deep levelling system. Back in early 2013, rumours swirled around its spiritual sequel – Rainbow Skies – when job adverts on developer SideQuest Studios’ site revealed the next project was already in early development. At the time, details were scarce, and the team remained tight-lipped.
Fast forward to 2018, and Rainbow Skies finally launched on PS4, PS3, and PS Vita, bringing a refined combat system, expanded customisation, and dual-world exploration. While it maintained the familiar feel of Rainbow Moon, it introduced a completely new story, cast of characters, and improved visuals, marking it as a standalone experience that didn’t require players to have completed the original.
Key additions included monster taming, deeper loot mechanics, and multi-tiered questlines – all of which added substantial replayability. It also supported cross-save functionality across all three PlayStation platforms, a feature praised by fans of portable play on the Vita.
Despite the solid reception, Rainbow Skies has not yet made the jump to PC, Switch, or current-gen platforms. SideQuest Studios has remained relatively quiet since release, and there has been no formal announcement of a follow-up or port.
For fans of indie strategy RPGs, Rainbow Skies remains an overlooked gem. Whether SideQuest returns to this universe or moves on to something entirely new, the studio’s meticulous approach to game design continues to be respected within the genre’s niche.
We’ll update you if there’s any movement on a new instalment or a port for modern systems.
