Mortal Kombat 12’s debut teaser trailer has made its first appearance. Given the enduring success of the Mortal Kombat franchise, it was only a matter of time before a new installment in the renowned fighting game series emerged. However, it remained uncertain whether NetherRealm’s next game would be Mortal Kombat 12, Injustice 3, or something entirely different.
Ed Boon, the famous Mortal Kombat creator, narrowed the possibilities down on Twitter, confirming that NetherRealm’s upcoming game would be either Mortal Kombat 12 or Injustice 3. Later, a Warner Bros. Discovery executive revealed that Mortal Kombat 12 was in development. Fans eagerly await Mortal Kombat 12’s complete unveiling, which rumours suggest could happen later this month.
Our First Teaser Of Many To Come
Though the full reveal is yet to come, fans have been offered a brief but intriguing teaser. At the end of a video expressing gratitude to fans for supporting Mortal Kombat over the past 30 years, viewers can see what seems to be an hourglass pouring out sand. The camera then zooms in on a single sand grain, which subsequently explodes. While this has left some fans puzzled, it is likely a reference to Mortal Kombat 11’s storyline.
The story of Mortal Kombat 11 revolves around Kronika, the Keeper of Time, and her manipulation of time following her son Shinnok’s death. She achieves this using her Hourglass artifact, although she is defeated by the end of the Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath expansion. The expansion concludes with one of two endings: Liu Kang or Shang Tsung seize the Hourglass and use it to create a “New Era,” essentially a new timeline.
This teaser suggests that Mortal Kombat 12 will likely continue the events from the Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath expansion, though the specifics are yet to be revealed. The game may introduce a new timeline that essentially reboots the story, or it could closely follow one of the expansion’s endings, treating it as canon. Fans can expect further details when the full Mortal Kombat 12 reveal takes place.
