With Street Fighter 6 shattering previous records to become Capcom’s newest sensation, it’s clear that this instalment in the fighting game genre has struck a chord among gamers. Launched on June 2nd across various platforms, Street Fighter 6 boasts full cross-platform gameplay support.

Critics’ Acclaim: The Positive Reception of Street Fighter 6

Street Fighter 6’s debut has been met with rave reviews from critics, achieving a sterling score of 92 on Metacritic for its PS5 variant. We even gave it a very respectable 9 out of 10 rating in our PlayStation 5 review. On Steam, it currently sits comfortably with a “Very Positive” rating, backed by over 2,000 reviews, despite the Metacritic user score still pending at the time of writing. Evidently, Street Fighter 6’s success story has been penned predominantly by its stellar PC performance, soaring past concurrent user numbers for other games in the same genre.

Street Fighter 6 Steam Charts

SteamDB reveals an impressive peak concurrent player count of 70,573 for Street Fighter 6, towering over figures achieved by well-known rivals. Mortal Kombat 11 and Tekken 7, for instance, clocked in at 35,147 and 18,966 concurrent players respectively, while Dragon Ball FighterZ’s peak was 44,303 simultaneous users on Steam. Street Fighter 6’s remarkable statistics outstrip its competition and show potential for further growth in the days to come.

Interestingly, many games achieve their highest concurrent player counts on the inaugural weekend post-launch. However, there have been instances, such as Destiny 2’s Lightfall expansion earlier this year, where records were smashed years after release.

Street Fighter 6: Standing Tall Among 2023’s Highest-rated Games

Perhaps Street Fighter 6’s allure lies in its accessibility for beginners, which could have significantly bolstered its player count. A testament to this is the alternative control scheme available in the game, allowing newcomers to execute special moves effortlessly. This makes it easy for fans to engage with their beloved characters. In addition, there’s a wealth of single-player content on offer for those who prefer to bypass the online multiplayer component.

Among the highest-rated games of 2023, Street Fighter 6 rubs shoulders with The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and the remake of Resident Evil 4. With Mortal Kombat 1’s release date confirmed for September 19 and other fighting games also on the 2023 release roster, it will be intriguing to see if any can challenge Street Fighter 6’s impressive peak player count. However, it’s likely they will need to garner similarly glowing reviews to rival these figures.

Street Fighter 6 is currently available for PS4, PS5, Windows PC and Xbox Series X/S.
