As had been previously hinted, Mortal Kombat 1 came to Summer Game Fest with an exclusive sneak peek at its gameplay, introducing an array of fresh characters into its ranks. It’s no secret that Mortal Kombat 1 inhabits a newly forged universe, the creation of Fire God Liu Kang. This universe seemed strangely tranquil, a calm before a fresh storm of conflict appeared on the horizon. Intriguingly, it appears that the enduring feud between Scorpion and Sub-Zero has been settled.

First Official Mortal Kombat 1 Gameplay Trailer

This novel trailer serves up a tantalising array of what Mortal Kombat 1 has to offer in terms of gameplay systems, showcasing everything from the gruesomely thrilling fatalities to the Kameo Fighter system and so much more.

The Kameo Fighter system is essentially a secondary character selection stage, granting players the opportunity to blend the fighting techniques of different teams. It’s also worth noting that while some characters serve solely as Kameo Fighters, others have made it into the primary roster. As is tradition, the combat delivers its promise of being savage and gut-wrenchingly brutal, with an abundance of bloodshed, shattered bones and astonishing abilities on full display.

In its initial trailer, Mortal Kombat 1 confirmed the return of Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Liu Kang, Raiden, Kung Lao, Kitana, Mileena, Johnny Cage, and Shang Tsung. Now, this roster has grown, with a host of fan-favourite classic characters making their triumphant return. These include, as either main roster fighters, Kameo fighters or a combination of the two, the likes of Kenshi, Jax, Goro, Kano, Sonya Blade, and Stryker.

The line-up of Mortal Kombat 1 Characters Confirmed at Summer Game Fest features:

However, NetherRealm has only just begun to reveal its strategy. With the release of MK 1 scheduled for September, there are roughly three months left for further promotional activities. These could include revealing additional characters, confirmation of its Kombat Packs, additional gameplay mechanics, story teasers, among others. What is clear though is that Mortal Kombat and fight game enthusiasts are being richly catered to this year.

Mortal Kombat 1 is set to launch on September 19th, 2023, and will be available for PlayStation 5, Switch, Windows PC and Xbox Series X/S.
