Insomniac Games has confirmed that Marvel’s Wolverine and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 exist within the same fictional universe, officially designated Earth-1048. Creative director Bryan Intihar revealed the connection during a Kinda Funny Games interview, establishing that Logan shares continuity with Peter Parker and Miles Morales.
During the Spider-Man 2 spoilercast with Kinda Funny Games, host Greg Miller asked Intihar whether the two franchises belonged to the same Marvel universe.
“They’re all 1048. I think I got that right, but yeah,” Intihar replied.
Earth-1048 is the Marvel universe established in Insomniac’s 2018 Marvel’s Spider-Man, which continued through Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and the recently released sequel.
The confirmation means Insomniac’s interpretation of Wolverine exists within that same continuity, although it does not establish whether Logan will meet either Spider-Man.
Intihar also explained why Wolverine did not make a character appearance in Spider-Man 2.
“There was a decision not to do it,” he said, explaining that the studio wanted to let the Wolverine team develop its own project without forcing a connection between the games.
That’s the important part, because Spider-Man 2 does include a Wolverine-inspired cosmetic. Miles Morales can unlock the Best There Is Suit, referencing Logan’s familiar costume and comic-book imagery.
However, the outfit is a visual homage rather than confirmation that Wolverine has appeared in New York or interacted with either protagonist.
What interests me is Insomniac’s decision to confirm a shared universe without making a crossover essential to either game’s story. It establishes a wider continuity while leaving both development teams free to explore their respective characters.
Marvel’s Wolverine was originally announced during Sony’s September 2021 PlayStation Showcase, but Insomniac has not confirmed a release date or detailed gameplay systems as of November 2023.
Although the shared universe leaves room for future connections, Intihar’s comments do not confirm a crossover, a Wolverine cameo in another Spider-Man game or any specific plans for the next instalment.
For now, Earth-1048 connects the two franchises through their setting, with Wolverine’s own story remaining the focus of Insomniac’s upcoming project.
Later update: Marvel’s Wolverine launched exclusively on PS5 on September 15, 2026, reinforcing its connection to Earth-1048 through references including Silver Sable International and the universe’s designation on Logan’s dog tag.
