  • Dead by Daylight relaunches Design a Cosmetic Contest.
  • Four categories: Killer Outfit, Survivor Outfit, Badge, and Banner.
  • Community voting will determine winners from shortlisted finalists.

Behaviour Interactive, the developer behind the popular asymmetrical horror game Dead by Daylight, has announced the return of its Design a Cosmetic Contest, offering players a unique opportunity to leave their mark on the game.

This exciting initiative allows fans to showcase their creativity and potentially see their designs come to life within the Dead by Daylight universe.

Categories and Submission Guidelines

The contest, which kicked off on July 29th, encompasses four distinct categories: Killer Outfit, Survivor Outfit, Badge, and Banner.

Aspiring designers have until August 19th at 11:59 p.m. ET / August 20th 4:59 a.m BST to submit their entries, giving them ample time to craft their perfect creations.

Complete guidelines for the Killer Outfit, Survivor Outfit, Badge, and Banner are accessible by clicking the corresponding hyperlinks provided in this text.

In a departure from previous iterations, this year’s contest introduces a new element of community engagement.

Rather than relying solely on the developers’ judgement, a shortlist of finalists will be presented to the Dead by Daylight community for voting.

This process is scheduled to take place from the 19th to 26th of September, with the ultimate winners to be revealed on October 3rd at 10 a.m. ET / 3 p.m BST.

All of this was previously detailed in the July roadmap that Behaviour Interactive shared earlier this month, although not in quite as much depth.

The stakes are high for participants, with winners not only seeing their designs integrated into the horror title but also receiving a substantial prize of 25,000 Auric Cells, equivalent to approximately $200 in in-game currency.

Behaviour Interactive has outlined specific guidelines for submissions, emphasising that designs should be original and align with the characters’ personalities while offering something fresh and unseen in the game.

The developers are looking for very rare cosmetics that don’t alter character bodies or include over-the-top visual effects.

Importantly, submissions must be based on Dead by Daylight’s original characters, with guest characters from other franchises explicitly excluded from the contest.

Community Response and Early Standouts

The community’s response to the contest announcement has been overwhelmingly positive, with submissions already pouring in across various social media platforms.

Reddit, in particular, has become a hotbed of creative ideas, with players sharing and discussing their concepts.

Among the early standout submissions is a cinema worker-themed outfit for The Unknown, aptly titled “Tickets Please,” which has garnered significant attention.

In the Survivor category, a gothic-inspired “Black Heart” outfit for Sable Ward has been turning heads, building upon the character’s existing aesthetic with a striking black-and-white design.

But our favourite we stumbled upon and has a serious chance of winning, is The Crooked Man. This has been getting some serious applause from the DBD community and as of this writing has 2.7K upvotes, 139 comments and 7 awards on Reddit. Check it out below:

While excitement runs high, some community members have expressed concerns about the voting process.

There are worries that popular characters might be favoured over the quality of submissions. However, Behaviour Interactive aims to mitigate this by having a three-person panel select the finalists based on originality and execution before opening the vote to the community.

As the submission period continues, the Dead by Daylight community eagerly anticipates the flood of creative designs that will emerge.

With the potential to shape the game’s visual landscape, this contest not only celebrates the creativity of the player base but also strengthens the bond between the developers and their community.
