Hooded Horse have revealed an upcoming update for their medieval strategy game Manor Lords. The strategy title is set to expand with Devil’s Hill, a large elevated terrain dominating the landscape.

The developers revealed a preview of the next update via Steam in a brief blog post.

This new Devil’s Hill map creates a dynamic challenge, with high-value resources positioned at the summit, encouraging Lords to battle for control.

Surrounding regions offer expansion opportunities, but securing the hilltop grants strategic and economic advantages.

Castle Planner & Stone Castles

Castle construction has been significantly overhauled, offering deeper customisation and more strategic planning. Individual modules and wall segments can now be upgraded independently, while battlements and platforms can be added selectively.

The previous placement constraints have been removed, allowing Lords to design fortresses based on rank rather than rigid adjacency rules. The new bailey calculation system determines castle size, reinforcing the connection between power and architectural ambition.

Progression System Rework

The existing Development Tree lacked immersion, prompting a complete redesign.

Several prototypes have been tested to merge historical accuracy, realism, and engaging gameplay.

However, balancing historical fidelity with fun mechanics presents challenges. Historically grounded features may conflict with engaging progression,

while overly gamified elements risk breaking immersion. The team is iterating through multiple design documents to refine a system that aligns with both player expectations and historical plausibility.

Future updates will dive deeper into AI-controlled towns, providing insights into economic and strategic interactions within Manor Lords.

Additionally, collectible figures are being introduced, marking a new milestone for the game’s expanding universe. It recently hit 3 million copies sold last month and the popularity seems to be growing all the time.

Stay tuned for the next development update that the devs will be dropping via Steam and their social channels.
