Key Highlights:

  • PlayStation 5 update 25.02-11.00.00 introduces enhanced activity cards, Unicode 16.0 emoji support, and parental control adjustments.
  • The update is being rolled out gradually worldwide, but users can download the firmware manually.
  • Performance and stability improvements are included, but no new themes have been added.

Sony has officially begun rolling out the latest system software update for the PlayStation 5, bringing the console to version 25.02-11.00.00.

Unlike many previous updates that primarily focused on stability improvements, this firmware patch introduces several new features and refinements designed to enhance the user experience.

However, as with prior updates, this version is being released in phases, meaning some users may not receive the update immediately.

What’s New in PS5 Update 25.02-11.00.00?

The most notable addition in this update is the improved handling of activity cards.

Sony has reworked the way activity details are displayed, making them fully visible on cards while still keeping potential spoilers hidden.

This refinement allows players to better track their in-game progress without accidentally encountering unwanted spoilers.

In addition to this, the update introduces support for Unicode 16.0 emojis, expanding the range of emojis that users can send in messages.

This small but meaningful change enhances communication between players, particularly in PlayStation’s messaging system.

Parental controls have also been adjusted in this update. When the restriction level is set to Late Teens or Older, Communication and User-Generated Content will now automatically default to Restrict.

Though, if users had previously set this restriction level before the update, their existing settings will remain unchanged and will be displayed as Customise.

As expected, Sony has included the usual system performance and stability enhancements. These improvements, while not detailed in-depth, are designed to ensure a smoother gaming experience.

No Return of PlayStation’s 30th Anniversary Themes

Despite the introduction of several refinements, the update does not bring back the much-requested 30th anniversary themes for the PlayStation 5.

Sony initially released these dynamic themes in December 2024 to celebrate three decades of PlayStation history, but later removed them.

The company had previously promised their return in a future update, though no further details have been provided.

Additionally, Sony has reiterated that, outside of the 30th anniversary collection, it has no current plans to introduce other custom themes for the PS5.

This remains a point of contention among fans, many of whom have been requesting dynamic themes similar to those available on the PlayStation 4.

As the update is being rolled out in phases, not all users will receive it at the same time. Although, those who wish to install it manually can download the firmware directly from PlayStation’s official website and update their console via USB.

PS5 Update 25.02-11.00.00 Patch Notes

  • Activity Cards Enhancement: Activity details are now fully displayed on cards, while spoilers remain hidden.
  • Emoji Support: Unicode 16.0 emojis can now be used in messages.
  • Parental Controls Update: The restriction level Late Teens or Older now defaults to Restrict for Communication and User-Generated Content. Existing settings remain unchanged for those who had previously set the restriction.
  • System Performance Improvements: General enhancements to system performance and stability.
  • User Interface Refinements: Improved usability in certain menus and message displays.

While this update introduces some useful quality-of-life improvements, many PS5 users are still waiting for long-requested features such as expanded theme support.

Nonetheless, the refinements to activity cards, emoji functionality, and parental controls contribute to an overall more polished experience.

As always, Sony continues to fine-tune the PlayStation 5 system with each update, ensuring that the console evolves with player needs.

More updates are expected in the future, and we all remain hopeful that Sony will address additional community requests in upcoming firmware patches.
