How to Find and Befriend Virginia in Sons of the Forest

Sons of The Forest how to get Virginia text left and Virginia in her white swimsuit right

Key Highlights:

  • Virginia is a recruitable AI companion who spawns randomly near water sources.
  • Building trust requires patience, non-aggression, and passive observation.
  • Once befriended, Virginia can wield both a pistol and shotgun, gather resources, and lead you to hidden loot.

Who Is Virginia?

Virginia Puffton is a unique mutant companion in Sons of the Forest. With three arms and three legs, she’s unlike any other character and can eventually become a powerful ally, helping defend your base and gathering valuable resources. But you’ll need to earn her trust first.

Where to Find Virginia

Virginia spawns randomly, but players frequently encounter her near freshwater sources – streams, lakes, or rivers where you can drink.

She might show up as early as day one, especially if you’ve started building a base or lingering in one area.

Tips to increase your chances of seeing her:

  • Stay near fresh water early in the game.
  • Avoid wandering too far without setting up a base.
  • If you spot her and she runs off, try reloading a previous save from when she first appeared as she often respawns at the same location.

How to Befriend Virginia

Befriending Virginia is a gradual, trust-based process. She will approach you on her own terms, so your behaviour is crucial:

Do:

  • Press “G” to holster your weapons or tools when she appears.
  • Stay calm and passive, continue base building or resting when she’s nearby.
  • Let her come to you and watch her dance or sit near your campfire.
  • Light campfires near her, she’s drawn to them and may sit beside them.
  • Observe from a distance and be patient.
  • Revive her if she’s attacked.

Don’t:

  • Don’t chase her.
  • Don’t approach her aggressively or too quickly.
  • Don’t equip weapons or tools when she’s nearby.
  • Don’t attack her (but if you do and she survives, she may still return later).

After a few peaceful encounters, Virginia will begin to:

  • Stay near you without running away.
  • Sit or drink water near your base.
  • Perform dances and gestures.
  • Bring you gifts like berries, herbs, aloe, or even fish.

Once she offers gifts three times, she’ll eventually gesture for you to come closer, this is the moment she accepts you as an ally.

What to Do After Befriending Virginia

Once Virginia accepts you, you’ll be able to give her a GPS locator so you can track her movements on the map, which is essential as she tends to wander far.

You can equip her with weapons such as a pistol and shotgun, and thanks to her three arms, she can carry both simultaneously.

Virginia has high combat efficiency – players note she aims and shoots with impressive precision, making her a deadly guardian for your base.

Additionally, she will lead you to hidden locations like loot caves or enemy camps by pointing or gesturing, and she will continue delivering items such as berries, herbs, flowers, and fish.

You’ll unlock achievements such as:

  • “Chivalry Is Not Dead” – for reaching max sentiment.
  • “Every Move You Make” – for giving her a GPS tracker.
  • “Keep Your Friends Close” – for completing the game with both Virginia and Kelvin alive.

Optional: Spawn Virginia Using Console Commands

If you’re struggling to find her or want to test her behaviour quickly, use the console commands:

  1. Type cheatstick after loading your save.
  2. Press F1 to bring up the console.
  3. Use commands like:
    • addvirginia – spawns a new Virginia.
    • virginiavisit – brings an existing Virginia to your location.

This is helpful if she disappears or becomes bugged.

If you’re looking to maximise your Sons of the Forest experience, recruiting Virginia is one of the smartest moves you can make.
