007 First Light Announcement Trailer
Premiered during Sony’s latest State of Play, the cinematic trailer introduces a younger, inexperienced Bond as he takes his first steps into the world of espionage.
This isn’t the Bond we know from film, First Light serves as a fresh reboot.
The game places players in the shoes of a 26-year-old James Bond, shaped by a traumatic childhood tragedy that orphaned him at age 11. Raised through British boarding schools and later trained in the Royal Navy, Bond is eventually recruited into MI6.
The trailer showcases his earliest encounters with key figures like M, Q, and Moneypenny, offering a ground-up reimagining of the spy’s origins.
Actor Lennie James, known for The Walking Dead, has been confirmed as John Greenway, a new character introduced as Bond’s mentor. Greenway warns of a mysterious adversary: “009 is a master manipulator… whatever the endgame is, we won’t see it coming.”
The trailer blends cinematic storytelling with glimpses of gameplay. Players will use stealth, gadgets, and melee combat to infiltrate hostile locations and eliminate targets.
True to IO Interactive’s roots, the game includes disguise mechanics, hinting at a spiritual connection to the Hitman series.
007 First Light is described as a “story-driven action-adventure” with player choice at its core.
Whether through blunt force or Bond’s signature charm, how situations are approached will be left to the player’s discretion. Q’s gadget lab also makes an appearance. Expect early interactions laced with humour as Bond experiments with prototypes.
IO has clarified this will be a wholly original story, unrelated to any previous Bond films.
CEO Hakan Abrak has also suggested the game is intended as the beginning of a trilogy, with Hitman now on pause as the studio focuses fully on the Bond universe.
Platforms and Future Showcases
Although revealed during a PlayStation event, 007 First Light is not exclusive.
The game will launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. The trailer hints at Uncharted-like exploration alongside IO’s signature design philosophy, tightly structured environments with dynamic outcomes.
More of the game will be revealed at IO Interactive’s own showcase, scheduled for June 6th at 9PM ET.
For fans hungry for a deeper look into Bond’s early days, this event promises fresh details and possibly a first look at extended gameplay.
