The Wetsuit in Sons of the Forest is a wearable outfit designed for travelling through water rather than general exploration.
Its location is easy to overlook because the cave continues towards the Shovel, with a one-way slide shortly after the Wetsuit pickup.
Where Is the Wetsuit in Sons of the Forest?
The Wetsuit is found inside Shovel Cave (Cave C), near the western foothills of the snowy mountain.
The cave entrance is close to where two waterways meet. Three impaled soldiers stand outside, and one carries the Slingshot.
The Wetsuit itself is located deeper underground, immediately after the first long underwater passage.
What Do You Need to Get the Wetsuit?
You need the Rope Gun and Rebreather before entering the main route through Shovel Cave.
The Rope Gun allows you to use the existing zipline across the cave’s opening obstacle. The Rebreather supplies air while swimming through the flooded tunnel beyond it.
Bring a spare Air Tank, a reliable light source and healing supplies. Mutants occupy the chambers beyond the underwater passage.
You do not need a keycard or the Shovel to obtain the Wetsuit.
How to Get the Wetsuit in Shovel Cave
Once you have both required tools, follow this route:
- Enter Shovel Cave and continue until you reach the initial gap crossed by a zipline.
- Use the Rope Gun to travel across the gap and continue towards the water.
- Equip the Rebreather and dive down into the submerged passage. Follow the underwater tunnel until you reach the next chamber.
- Surface and follow the right-hand wall. Mutants occupy this passage, so approach carefully or clear the immediate area.
- Collect the Wetsuit from the rocks beside an Air Tank and 9mm Ammo.
The Wetsuit is on the right shortly after you emerge from the first underwater tunnel.
NOTE: Do not slide down the steep passage before collecting it. The slide is a one-way descent into the next part of the cave, preventing you from simply climbing back to the pickup.
You can collect the Wetsuit without reaching the Shovel. However, if you are already prepared for further exploration, the Shovel lies deeper along the same cave route.
What Does the Wetsuit Do?
The Wetsuit increases swimming speed and provides very high resistance to becoming wet.
Its clothing attributes are focused on water resistance rather than warmth or comfort.
The increased swimming speed makes the Wetsuit useful for flooded caves, rivers and other areas requiring extended swimming.
However, the outfit also has an important disadvantage: movement becomes slower on land.
I would equip the Wetsuit before a substantial swimming section and switch to another outfit when travelling across the island. Leaving it equipped during ordinary exploration means accepting slower movement without benefiting from its main advantage.
Does the Wetsuit Keep You Warm?
The Wetsuit provides high water resistance but low warmth.
Water resistance helps limit the effects of becoming wet, but it should not be confused with the insulation provided by clothing designed for cold conditions.
The Wetsuit is therefore not a direct replacement for the Winter Jacket when exploring snowy areas on land.
It also does not provide additional underwater breathing time. The Rebreather and its Air Tanks remain responsible for your air supply.
The Wetsuit is most useful when swimming is the main task, while other outfits may be better suited to extended travel or cold-weather exploration.
