Key Highlights:

  • Mafia: The Old Country PS5 Pro enhanced at launch with improved dynamic resolution and smoother performance.
  • Game will include VRR and 120Hz display support, enhancing both Quality and Performance modes.
  • Launches 8th August for £44.99/$49.99 as a linear, story-driven experience without open-world mechanics.

Mafia: The Old Country is now officially PS5 Pro Enhanced, and that gives early adopters of Sony’s upgraded console more to look forward to when the game launches this Friday. After weeks of trailers quietly carrying the “captured on PS5 Pro” disclaimer, developer Hangar 13 has now confirmed via X what that really means for players.

On PS5 Pro, Mafia: The Old Country will run with higher dynamic resolution across both Quality and Performance modes, offering a sharper image whether you’re prioritising fidelity or framerate. That added flexibility is bolstered by full support for Variable Refresh Rate and 120Hz displays, key features for those looking to squeeze the most responsiveness out of their high-end setups.

What this means in practical terms is that Performance Mode, which already hits an average of 60fps on the base PS5, should now do so with greater consistency and visual clarity on the PS5 Pro.

Likewise, Quality Mode users on Pro hardware should benefit from more stable resolution scaling and richer detail across environments.

Considering how much of the game hinges on immersion, from candlelit villas to dusty Sicilian towns, the bump in visual fidelity on PS5 Pro directly enhances the storytelling Hangar 13 has worked to foreground.

The PlayStation Store listing now proudly carries the “PS5 Pro Enhanced” badge, and while it’s a minor detail, it helps clarify the value proposition as Sony ramps up awareness around Pro support heading into the back half of the console cycle.

On PC, the feature set is equally robust, with uncapped framerates, anti-aliasing, multiple upscaling methods including DLSS and FSR, and widescreen monitor support. Keyboard users can remap inputs freely, and HDR is on hand to give the game’s atmospheric lighting even more weight. Accessibility hasn’t been ignored either, with toggleable V-Sync and support for a suite of visual and gameplay modifiers.

Set in 1900s Sicily, Mafia: The Old Country follows Enzo Favara through a violent, emotionally charged prequel narrative.

This isn’t about open-world distractions; it’s a streamlined, third-person experience focused on tension, cinematic pacing, and moment-to-moment decision making.

The price tag reflects that focus. At £44.99 / $49.99, it’s being positioned not just as a mainline Mafia title but also as a contained and polished entry that respects your time.

Talking of time, the story is a lot shorter than you may think, 10.5 hours to be exact. Add on 3 more hours with optional side quests and it brings the total up to 13 hours.

The devs just recently dropped a new trailer showcasing exploration via horseback riding and vintage cars.

The PS5 Pro enhancements don’t reinvent the game, but they do refine it. And for a title that leans heavily on visual tone and precision gameplay, those refinements might make all the difference.
