Key Highlights:

  • Battlefield 2042 players complained about the grind in its new Road to Battlefield 6 Battle Pass.
  • DICE has confirmed Double XP weekends every week until launch, plus two Triple XP events.
  • All six reward packs earned in Battlefield 2042 will transfer to Battlefield 6 when it launches Oct 10.

Battlefield 2042’s latest update introduced the free “Road to Battlefield 6” Battle Pass, but players immediately criticised how slow the grind felt. Instead of celebrating the series, progression risked becoming a chore that only the most dedicated could finish.

DICE quickly stepped in with a post on X. Just eleven days after update 9.2.0 went live, the studio acknowledged the problem and announced a fix. From now until the release of Battlefield 6 on 10 October, every weekend will feature Double XP. To give players an extra push at the end, the final two weekends before launch will go even further with Triple XP.

From my own experience covering live-service shooters, this is a move that makes sense. When Call of Duty has stacked XP weekends ahead of a new release, it has kept players engaged rather than burnt out. Battlefield cannot afford to frustrate its core fanbase right before introducing a sequel, so this adjustment feels less like generosity and more like smart community management.

The pass is structured around six themed reward packs, each celebrating a different Battlefield era. Here is the full breakdown:

TierPack NameGame ReferenceNotable Rewards
8Western Front PackBattlefield 1“Hellfighter” title and weapon package
19Muller PackBattlefield VCosmetic bundle
30Aurora PackBad Company 2Themed cosmetics
40Blackburn PackBattlefield 3Soldier customisation set
49Commander PackBattlefield 4Classic soldier skin
60Sovereign Soldier PackBattlefield 2042Full cosmetic set

All six packs will transfer into Battlefield 6, which gives players a strong incentive to finish the pass. For long-time fans, this means carrying a piece of their legacy forward into the next game, rather than leaving it behind with 2042.

DICE has also confirmed it will continue tracking feedback and progression data, so more adjustments could arrive before October. They also just recently revealed the system requirements for players on PC.

For now, though, the extended schedule of bonus XP events should make earning every reward far more realistic, giving players a sense of momentum heading into one of the most important launches in Battlefield’s history.
