The Machete is a fast blade that you can grab on Day One in Sons of The Forest. I always pick it up before patrols get busy because it gives you a safe early game. Its reach is short, but the speed is the point. Quick slashes stagger light targets and let you finish before they react.
From the Rebreather cave on the north beach, face east and follow the shoreline. Pass the beached orcas and keep going to the far cove.
You will see an abandoned camp with two tents beside a rocky outcrop. Turn toward the water and check the deflated rafts and inflatable kayaks. The Machete is stuck in the middle one.
Loot the site before you leave. Search ammo cases, crates, and grab the Shotgun Rail near the tents. Use a tent to save. You can also place a tarp and stick to mark the spot on the GPS and return later when supplies respawn.
Equip the blade from your inventory, add it to the backpack, or bind it to a number key for quick use. Aim for heads on cannibals. Clean timing can remove a head in one swipe.
Use the speed to stay close, circle, and punish. Outside of combat, the machete is great for stripping leaves and collecting sticks when you are building or making armour.
If you spawn at the beach, you can detour to grab the Rebreather first, then swing east to the machete camp. If you start inland or on the mountain, drop to the coast and follow the same shoreline path. No extra tools are needed.
