Rockstar Games has pushed out a new Grand Theft Auto 5 update (1.009.001), available only on PlayStation 5 as of October 22nd. The patch weighs in at around 692MB and focuses on technical stability and graphical fixes, rather than gameplay additions.
The only confirmed change so far is the fix for a ray tracing issue that caused helicopter blades to cast dark, spinning shadows during certain lighting conditions. Players had been flagging this since the last patch, and the fix should finally resolve those visual inconsistencies.
The update also includes general stability and security improvements, specifically aimed at GTA Online’s ongoing exploit vulnerabilities, which have been a recurring concern within the community.
There are no equivalent updates for PS4, Xbox, or PC, meaning this release is strictly a PS5-specific optimisation. The timing also lines up with Rockstar’s typical pre-expansion maintenance cycle, leading some players to speculate that this patch could be preparing the game for upcoming December content, possibly linked to the long-rumoured Mansions DLC.
That said, common connection errors and long-standing gameplay glitches, such as the facility bug and god mode exploit remain unresolved, leaving sections of the community frustrated at the lack of deeper fixes.
While the update itself doesn’t add new missions or content, it serves as another reminder of Rockstar’s ongoing support for GTA 5’s enhanced edition, which continues to receive performance adjustments well over a decade after launch.
