Electronic Arts and Maxis have confirmed that The Sims 4 AutoSave feature will finally be added to the game in the next base game update, arriving on 21 July 2026.
The addition comes nearly 12 years after The Sims 4 first launched and addresses one of the community’s longest-standing requests. Until now, players have relied entirely on manual saves. A single crash or forgotten save prompts could result in the loss of hours of gameplay and memorable in-game moments.
Once enabled, AutoSave will automatically create save points during key moments, including when players switch lots, reach specific gameplay milestones or spend an extended period playing without manually saving. Those who prefer to remain in full control of their save files can instead enable Save Reminders, which display a customisable notification after a chosen amount of playtime.
Both features allow players to decide how frequently the game should save or remind them, offering flexibility for different play styles. EA says the goal is to reduce the risk of losing progress while still giving players control over their save management.
The Memory Boost feature, which has previously been available through early access testing, will also become available to all eligible players on PC, Mac and consoles as part of the same update.
According to EA, Memory Boost improves how The Sims 4 manages system memory, resulting in smoother performance, reduced lag, improved frame rates, faster loading times and a lower chance of memory-related crashes. Players with large households, heavily decorated homes or older save files are expected to notice the biggest improvements.
The developer has also confirmed that another major quality-of-life update is planned for September, with improvements centred on Sim autonomy. Maxis says Sims will behave more consistently and respond more intelligently to player actions, with additional details expected closer to the update’s release.
Although many players have welcomed the arrival of AutoSave, some fans have pointed out that the feature has taken more than a decade to reach the game. Even so, its introduction represents one of the most significant quality-of-life improvements The Sims 4 has received in recent years, particularly for players with long-running saves or large, complex households.
