An early player report suggests that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 may launch on October 20 without New Game Plus. The discovery raises questions about whether players will be able to replay the story while retaining their unlocked abilities and suits.
On October 7, X user ChrisGaming95, who reportedly obtained an early copy of the game and earned its Platinum Trophy in approximately 30 hours, posted that there was no New Game Plus option.
The reported absence is significant because New Game Plus typically allows players to begin another playthrough while carrying over character progression, rather than starting again with their abilities and equipment locked.
It is worth distinguishing the early player’s experience from an official announcement. Insomniac Games has not confirmed whether NG+ will be available at launch, and the reported absence does not rule out its introduction through an update.
There is also precedent within the series. The original Marvel’s Spider-Man received New Game Plus after its September 2018 release, allowing players to revisit the campaign with previously unlocked progression.
What interests me most is that Spider-Man 2’s expanded progression systems could make a second playthrough particularly appealing. Insomniac has confirmed 65 suits, additional Suit Styles and distinct abilities for Peter Parker and Miles Morales, giving players plenty to experiment with beyond their first completion.
New Game Plus would provide an opportunity to revisit the story without having to unlock those abilities and customisation options again.
For now, however, the absence of a New Game Plus option remains an early player report rather than a confirmed statement from Insomniac.
Later update: Insomniac subsequently confirmed that New Game Plus would not be available at launch. The mode eventually arrived on March 7, 2024, through version 1.002, alongside mission replay, new suits and accessibility features.
