Watch the New Tekken 8 Story Trailer
With Tekken 8’s January 2024 launch drawing near, Bandai Namco has unveiled a dramatic new story trailer detailing the next chapter in the decades-long Mishima family saga. More expansively spanning the fighter roster than the previous entry, the trailer reveals Jin Kazama struggling to control his fearsome Devil powers to lead a desperate rebel alliance against his tyrannical father Kazuya Mishima and his warmongering G Corporation.
Set six months after Kazuya overthrew his father Heihachi’s Mishima Zaibatsu, the story trailer opens with Kazuya openly defying global calls for disarmament by the United Nations.
After Kazuya’s forces raze the UN headquarters and wreak havoc worldwide, Jin spearheads “Operation Lightning” – a coordinated rebel offensive against Kazuya involving fighters across the Tekken universe.
But victory depends on Jin finally mastering control over the Devil Gene he inherited from Kazuya. Visions of his late mother Jun appear to inspire Jin to embrace his Kazama lineage of spiritual strength to subdue the darkness within.
So with mankind’s future at stake, the stage is set for an apocalyptic face-off between father and son. Can Jin overcome his inner demon, or will Kazuya plunge the world into nonstop war? Based on the trailer’s scale, high production values and massive roster presence, Tekken 8’s core premise clearly avoids 7’s overemphasis on the Mishima bloodline alone.
Nearly All Fighters Take Part In the Story
- In exciting fashion, the trailer features veterans like Hwoarang, Ling Xiaoyu and Claudio Serafino aligning with Jin, while relative newcomer Leroy Smith mentors him on controlling inner darkness.
- Sinister new additions like cyber-soldier Viktor and Heihachi’s possible daughter Angélica lead enemy forces.
- So the latest entry aims to evenly spotlight its diverse fighters within the brewing worldwide conflict, avoiding sidelining anyone to supplemental character episodes.
The expansive roster presence even extends to emotional interpersonal drama, with Jun’s spirit inspiring Jin to overcome his trauma and inner demons for the greater good. So the Beat ‘Em Up’s narrative shows promise in centering the whole franchise cast to tell an engaging war story, not just the Mishima bloodline.
This is just after yesterday’s Yoshimitsu reveal, which got the fighting title’s fan base absolutely brimming with excitement. The devs Bandai Namco have been releasing character trailers almost once per week for the past few months and the hype for the Beat ‘Em Up is at an all time high.
